Anyone know anything about this "The Thing" mask?

It is listed as a mask, but it can be a display only item, so I hope it's o.k. to put it here instead of the costume forum.

I got a new catalog from Johnson Smith and they have this mask listed in their Halloween section. It looks nice, but I know they often use their best product shot to sell the item. It's also expensive, but that doesn't always mean you get what you see.

So I was wondering if anyone knew anything about this maks, who makes it, does it look as good in person as it does in the catalog photos?

"The Thing" is one of my favorite movies, and I'd love to add this to my collection if it looks as good in person.

Looks very cool, but is it from a scene in the movie (Carpenter version of course :))?

I haven't seen The Thing in some time, but I don't remember seeing that in the movie.

It is not quite right, but close enough to make a cool display.:thumbsup
I love the movie and I am saving up to get a Norwegian head bust as well.
How much is this mask?

No, its not a scene from the movie, just "inspired"

It does look cool though, and given a better paintjob, that would be one kick ass display piece

Well it is from the movie (sort of) as it is a sculpt of the "Blair monster" from the final Thing scene.
Not right, but it similar enough that I am sure that was what they were going for.:)

How is this mask different from the movie? I seem to recall the creature had a bit more hair, but other than that, it seems right on?

And it's around $74.

I am having trouble finding a good shot of it (work computer blocks lots of sites:rolleyes) but just on memory I thought the Human mouth was more distorted, and the side of it disappeared open into the monster side. This one looks like just a slight distortion and you can still see the whole human mouth.
Not a complaint - still looks awesome, that is just what made me feel it was a little off. But I may be wrong about that - it would be a first for me:lol

For that price I will get one. Is there a website or something? How did you get the catalog?
And Thanks by the way for pointing it out, I would have missed it.

Inspired by the movie I would say and not a bad price for what it looks like.

Just my 2 cents

Looks close, but not exact. Definately inspired by. Here's the wax sculpt for the film to compare with:

And the stop-motion puppet:

It is made by Bump in the night productions.

I saw one that someone got from the Transworld convention and it looked great. the mass produced versions are hit and miss sometimes.

If you order directly from them, they will trade out masks if you have a problem. If you get it from somewhere else, They will not honor a trade out, and you will have to go through the company you got it from.

Bump in the Night

They might be a few dollars more, but it sounds like you have a better chance of an exchange if it's not up to your expectations (thanks Patsmear!)
