Dear RPF,

Whereas I know the RPF is the keeper of knowledge on all things Sci Fi and life…and whereas I'm a big fan of the 80's flash gordon....was wondering if anybody had any good reference photos of Klytus. :lol

I did a search and saw a post a few years ago of a nice collection of Gordon props but no full size pics. Also googled and only saw one or two full body shots and they were tiny.

Any help would be appreciated.

There you go.

I remember seeing a topic about klytus mask, Someone had made or restored the original mask...or something like that.

I'm not sure about my font....I use the default page and it's all black. Sorry if you couldn't read it

I've seen a couple over the years.. there was a big group at a Worldcon one year (late 80's, early 90's?) that did most of the main cast! I've never seen so many bugle beads all in one place! :lol

Only ever seen Timothy Dalton tackle Klytus... He did it well, though!! :lol

I'd be interested, as a friend of mine really has both the Klytus and MVS's Ming voice down to a T!!

I have been wanting to make this costume since I saw the movie!!

The only question I can't seem to figure out is what fabric his hood and robe are made from. It looks like a heavy Satin, but a friend of mine swears it is a velvet. It definitely has a sheen to it. I have been unable to find any Hi Rez pics that show the texture clearly. GRRRRRRR!!!!

I made a Klytus mask but there are some great pics on this site. I have some pics of mine in my album.

Figured out how to add the picture so here it is
picture.php

That looks pretty darn close! It is certainly the only attempt I have seen - EVER! :eek
It looks to be a bit "long" in the face and jaw....but perhaps that's just due to the photograph?

I have a couple pics of the original mask from a friend of mine that owns it if you would be interested in seeing them?

Have you made the arm piece yet?

You're right, I think the camera elongated the mask. I would love to see pictures of the reel thing!!! And no I haven't tackled the arm yet. Or the triangular chest piece for that matter. Could be fun sowing all the sequins on.

Hey everyone. I stumbled upon this forum while googling Klytus. I'm in the midst of research now (more research, actually) because this costume is in my near future and I'm a bit nervous about it. I found a source for the bugle beads at this site Bugle bead, Dyna-Mites™, glass, silver-lined metallic gold, #3 round hole. Sold per pkg of 35 grams. - Fire Mountain Gems and Beads ... but I've yet to find the perfect fabric and I've been looking for months. I'd certainly say the fabric is a heavy satin, but I'm thinking of going with a lighter fabric with the same level a sheen (as the satin).

Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

(Go easy on me, I'm new here. ;) )

Fire mountain has good prices, we've dealt with them before. I barely remember the movie but would like to see more of the costumes.

Hi Auroragfn!

Thanks for that link! I usually get my beads at Berger's in downtown L.A., but this site might have better prices to compare!

I am pretty sure his hood/robe is some type of satin. But if you go with a lighter weight make sure it isn't something cheap like JoAnn's carries. That stuff is way too shiny. LOL!

If you find someone that can make the "arm", please post it here. I can do sewing/tailoring, but when it comes to props (fiberglass, vacuform, etc) I don't have the "know how".
