Anybody fall out of love with replicas after owning screenused pieces?

Anyone have trouble reconciling their replica prop collection after purchasing a bunch of screenused pieces? Since I've been a member, I have seen a few JY threads where members sell their replica collection after obtaining a sizable screensued one. Others have no problem having a joint collection with pieces mixed in from both groups, and others keep them seperate.

After buying some screenused pieces recently, I am sad to say its hard to look at a few of my replicas the same way. It was a terrible feeling considering how special my replicas are to me. Figured I would ask.

Not me Bro!

I play with my replicas of my Screen-used pieces so I love them both!

Yes. NOTHING compares to the real thing, and taking the time and setting the cash aside over time to purchse something that really has meaning to you in a collection sense is amazing, and unfortunately for me, replicas just dont cut it.

I like both also. I only have a couple screen used things. I costume too so replica props are much safer for playing with :)

I think its still a mix for me, but certainly a lot fewer replicas now that I have screen used.

My ratio is leaning more towards screen used instead of replicas at the moment. That being said replicas are as good because screen used pieces can be fragile at times so thats where the replica comes in.

Plus its a great feeling scratch building or even putting a replica together and painting it.

I love both - Replicas are cheaper, easier to acquire / more fun to put together yourself, less worrying to handle/have handled and often better quality than SU... SU, though, are SU. It's a cool buzz to watch a movie and go "I own that!"

Specially if it's something prominent, like Simon Pegg's bloody shirt from Shaun Of The Dead :)

I only have a 2 screen-used items,

- Silent Hill School Girl Outfit - An extra wore.
- sAW II syringe pit syringe - not so rare as the pit was full of them it has also been signed so it's no longer in it's screen-used condition.

I do not have anything replica related for the Silent Hill franchise so I obviously cherish the screen-used Item I do have.

As for the sAW Franchise I have quite a bit that I may cherish the screen-used over. For Instance I own a replica of the Reverse Bear Trap Shawnee Smith wore in sAW as Amanda this is also signed by Shawnee and I feel it has more value than a needle pit as less were produced even though it is not screen-used I also have reasons to believe its the first pull from the sculptor Tyler Haslett. I also am in the process of getting a really rare animatronic replica of the puppet. To me that one replica is priceless and as close to the real thing I can afford.

Basically I don't think I can fall out of love with replica's, infact I may love some replicas I have more than some screen-used I have.

I am the same way. I have tons of screen-used props compared to my replica props, but replicas comes in handy because I have my rocketeer productions helmets stored safely away. Finding a helmet like that in great condition plus proof of its lineage is impossible. I just display my replica helmets instead.

It only takes one person to accidentally knock something over or an earthquake since I live in cali

I own and like both. Replicas are great because often times, it is near impossible to find the screen-used version it was made off of (without spending an arm and a leg!).

Def. appreciate everybody's thoughts. Most of my SU pieces are still on their way. I am def. interested how they play out next to the replicas and when I show my collection next.

I just think being able to say "Movie prop collection" is so much cooler than "replica movie prop collection" like I have been saying for 20 years!

Well lets see.....I could spend every penny I ever had on ONE screen used prop and look at it for the next several decades ......or......I could buy 100's of replicas and always have something different and new to enjoy the rest of my life....I think we all know the answer to that one.

Most screen used props are made pretty crappy! I really like screen used knives though.

Replicas using the real parts are also pretty cool! If you only like screen used props, you probably aren't that crafty. I think building props is very appealing to the crafty people.

I could care less about screen used costumes. To me they are the lamest thing ever! :lol

^ I used to feel that way, but I recently had a change of heart. I generally like pieces that are recognizable to me immediately, and when the price is reasonable, some clothes items can be pretty neat.
