Any TIE Avenger resources?

I'm planning on converting a FineMolds TIE Interceptor into an Avenger (the wings are closer to the Avenger's than the regular Fighter), and I'm wondering if anyone's done any of the bits already. I've seen the "squashed" version of the Avenger, but I'm going for the more movie-accurate version:

After I'm off and running with that, I'll use the original Interceptor's wings and panels to mod another Interceptor into the Royal Guard Interceptor from Galaxies, which has the extra little winglets:

So anyone have any leads? Or am I working from scratch? :)

Thats a weird looking Avenger. The ones I know and love were modified from Vader's X1 with the squares cut out to resemble the Interceptors wing. There was a garage kit at somepoint of that version, not sure about the Galaxy one.

Yeah. Based of the movie-style TIE ball cockpit, as the Fighter, Bomber, Advanced x1, and Interceptor were. As opposed to this:

Here's a video clip of the CG model Decipher used to make the movie-style one in my first post:

[EDIT: Trying to fix video link, since I don't seem to be able to embed HTML here...]

[EDIT EDIT: Screw it -- It links to my PhotoBucket, so I don't know if someone who isn't me will be able to view it...]

Oh, I see...not that the Avenger appeared in the movies, but apart from the wings it should match those that did. I agree. :)

Yeah. Basically, I'm planning to start with Vader's x1 and an Interceptor, and see what a lot of styrene, putty, and simple moulding can accomplish -- unless someone out there has done anything like this.

Further down the road, I'd also like to tackle a TIE Phantom:

If I recall correctly, the TIE "Avenger" was the nickname of a fighter from the old DOS game, TIE Fighter, and was usually referred to as the TIE Advanced in game. The design was based on the TIE craft that Darth Vader flew in A New Hope, but wasn't a duplicate. It looked similar to but different from Darth Vader's TIE.

I'm pretty sure this is the guy that did a lot of the 3D renderings for the TIE Fighter Artwork, though it may have only been for publications after the fact. It couldn't hurt to contact him and ask him if he has any of his renderings of his TIE artwork that he could send you. If he does, you should post them here. He did some awesome stuff for the TIE Defender but I'm pretty sure he did stuff for the TIE Advanced/Avenger too.

That's the only picture of that version that I have. I don't know which is actually considered canon, but I also prefer the first version from TIE Fighter. I think the boxier one was in X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter and X-Wing Alliance. I checked out the video and I think that was probably a fan made cgi model. I don't remember the wings or the back end looking exactly like Vader's fighter.

Well, as I hope I indicated, that video clip I posted was created by Decipher to use for their card art of the Avenger. I have the TIE Fighter game, and it was the TIE Advanced in there, based off of Vader's prototype. I don't remember when the Avenger name was coined or the production version, but I prefer that over "Advanced".

I missed that... :lol Maybe it is the official version then? It was left out of the Essential Guides, so I guess we won't know.
