Another thrilling adventure of The Green Hornet!

Well, that did just what it said on the tin: A Green Hornet movie starring Seth Rogen. :)

Me, I loved it. Since given that the Green Hornet is sort of a poor man's Batman, it makes complete sense that you get a poor man's Michael Keaton to sell it. I love the story nods they gave to the waning publishing business, Jay Chou's broken English, Kato-vision, and the Lone Ranger.

I wasn't so down with Cameron Diaz, mainly because I was so in love with Wende Wagner from the TV show:

Hard to believe she's died of old age, already.

Plotwise, this addressed what is inherently silly about superhero movies and turned it on its head: Britt and Kato get drunk to mourn the death of Britt's father and end up doing some crimestopping. Awesome!

I didn't see Clash of the Titans, but the main criticism I read was that it was obviously 3d'd after the fact and you can tell that here. There's nothing inherently 3D going on in most scenes. A good shot of the Black Beauty emptying its spent cartridges everywhere, and who doesn't like 3D broken glass shards everywhere? But you don't need to see this in 3D to enjoy it.

Me, I'd love another thrilling adventure with these guys. A very 21st-century update.

On the other hand, I think that when people make marketing decisions like "let's put Seth Rogen in The Green Hornet," they expect to double their audience, thinking that superhero fans and Seth Rogen fans will go see it.

When what really happens is you get the Venn Diagram audience, and only the folks who like Seth Rogen's humor and the guys who know the secretary should be called "Casey" and not "Lenore" are the ones going to your flick opening weekend.

Hard to believe she's died of old age, already.

I thought she died of cancer in her fifties. I know time goes by faster and faster the older I get, but pleeeeeease don't let the fifties be old age. The forties are bad enough.

Oh well, she'll always be 25 to me.

And now--off to ignore the Carrie Fisher/Jenny Craig thread, as that one screws with some youthful memories as well.

I dug it, too. A fun, quirky time at the movies.
To be honest, I've been digging so deep into Tron Legacy that it was nice to just sit back and spend some time with a (modernized version) of a character I've casually enjoyed over the years.

Gondry tamed his rabid style and the movie was all the better for it. The refined uses for the Kato and Hornet vision were perfect and -- dare I say it -- cool.

I saw it last night too and thoroughly enjoyed it, as well as all of my friends I went with! It even had some great laugh out loud moments and I was even impressed by their representation of Kato (which was my main concern).

Again not sure about Diaz, but she did alright. She does seem to be getting on now...not that that's a bad thing.

Decent popcorn flick all round.

But you love almost every flick, Nicky!

Heh.

Not even close to true.
I just focus my energy on the ones I like. ("Like" is appropriate in this case, as I certainly didn't LOVE it.)

Couldn't stand Gondry's last two movies.
I don't seek out threads for movies I don't dig.

Strange. Most forums are hating it. They call it only fit for the pothead crowd.

Myself, even the commercials make me want to vomit. I guess that's why I've never seen a rogan movie.

I've written GH off based on the reviews, and well, the previews look pretty terrible.

This review has given me second thoughts, it's still up in the air which movie I'm going to see this evening... GH or the Dilemma.

The fact that Lisa Schwarzbaum of Entertainment Weekly didn't like it or even really understand what was going on should be considered a ringing endorsement to non- movie snobs everywhere.
