ANH Red Y... kit

Well, I was going to use 3/8 Smith Victor studs but I could only score one of them after two weeks of searching. I ordered the hex standoffs yesterday and they arrived today.

Wheee, off to the drill press...

Love that Kevin, very clean, very strong, Merry Christmas Y wing heads, going to carve open my box in a bit, when i can get away from the Peppa Pig toys lol.

Red Jammer landed safely in Montreal 3 days ago!!! IT .. IS .. ENORMOUS!!!

Thanks to Steve and Mike for doing this at this time of the year!! You guys are ace all around!!! I didn't even know the list was getting their Y-Wing shipped!!!

Got my shipping confirmation. I add my hearty thanks to Mike and Steve for getting these kits out over the holiday season like this. Absolutely fantastic.

I've been reading through this thread to learn as much as I can on the Y-Wing models. I actually decided to do a shot by shot analysis of the battle of Yavin using my 2006 theatrical cut DVD and my 2011 BluRay. There are very few shots of the Y-Wings in the battle, so I made up a shot list to summarize what we see:

Flight heading to Death Star - one Y-Wing with black dome droid in socket
Flight flying with Yavin above - 3 Y-Wings in mass of 14 X-Wings
Red 10 cockpit shot - 2 Y-Wings flying behind
2x Wedge cockpit shots - 1 Y-Wing flying behind
2x Luke cockpit shots - 2 Y-Wings flying behind
2x Dutch cockpit shots from side - TIE Killer to his side and blue/gray with droid on other side
shot of 4 X-Wings peeling off in barrel roll - 2 Y-wings behind them (great shot! how do they make those models do that?)
3 Y-Wings diving down to Death Star - to much blur to see, but it should be all 3
Head on shot of Y-Wings in trench - this shot is reused 3 times
side shot of 2 Y-Wings in trench - TIE Killer in foreground, blue/gray underneath, no droids
TIE cockpit view ahead - 3 Y-Wings seen from behind with engine glow on
Gold 2 explodes - pyro shot
Y-Wings fly at camera with TIEs behind - 2 Y-Wings from front
Gold Leader explodes - 2nd pyro shot
Gold 5 (Leader?) explodes - 3rd pyro shot
Falcon with 2 X-Wings fly from Death Star - Y-Wing is either triangles or TIE Killer
Ships fly toward Yavin's moon - Y-Wing shot from behind

I know that TIE Killer is traditionally assigned to Gold Leader, but since it is visible to the side of Dutch in his cockpit shots I don't know if maybe he's flying triangles instead? Are there reference pics of the Gold (Red originally) with a piece of paper next to it listing the pilot, like the "blue" X-Wings (4 John D, 12, 3 Biggs)? I saw no evidence of Red Jammer in any of those shots, all tho most of them the Y-Wings are too blurry to identify or from an angle that does not show identifying markings. Given that the maximum number of Y-Wings in a shot is three, they are probably the known Gold ships. Any thoughts?

TIE Killer aka Glod Leader was not destroyed as a pyro.. it lives! in the shot gold leader was killed in... they blew up Triangles.... I think it was Tiger wheel, Blue grey that was used in the trench.. As no shots of it have been seen since the release... then again who knows really.

I don't think they did blow up the hero Y-Wings. I think they had at least 4 pyros built for exploding (3 blow'd up, and one left over to be refurbed for ESB). It doesn't make sense to blow up the heros as they have armatures and engine lighting inside. With all that work and prep going into them to make them good looking an functional, blowing it up seems ridiculous and the might be dangerous with the armament inside being turned into a missile. The pyro models were generally basically painted empty shells, with pre-scored sections to break away and the ones I've seen were suspended by monofilament and not on armatures. The triangles ship may not be around today, but that doesn't mean it was blow'd up. It could have just as easily ended up in private hands or was damaged during storage or moving.

Take it from us, "Triangles" as a Hero, was detonated, think the proof is in fact in this thread of another here on the board, and backed up by the Profiles in History images from a while back.

Id even bet my farm ( if i had one lol ) that the twisted mangled mess under the bench in the Lucas Soundstage photo is also, "Triangles" too.

I'm going to have to look around some more to see where that information and pics were listed. I'm assuming Profiles auctioned off the blow'd-up parts from your response.

But I'm also finding two sets of pics that I can't match up to the 4 known original Y-Wings:

kg_anh_gold1-003.jpg

This one is under the reference page for "Gold Leader", but although the other two pics on that page are the TIE Killer, this one is most certainly not. It is not blue/gray or triangles either. Anyone seen this one before? (Interestingly they have pics of blue/gray and they label it as Gold 5.)

There's also this pic that was staring me in the face for awhile as I was referencing triangles on it, and then realized the model next to it was neither blue/gray or TIE Killer. With no canons on it and different patterns on it, I don't know what Y-Wing this is. But looking at the following table shots of models, I think it is a match for the farthest Y-Wing:

The Y-Wing closest to the edge of the table is definitely triangles, the next Y-Wing looks like it matches up with TIE Killer, and the last one looks like it is a pretty close match to the canon-less model from the pic above. Anyone agree with that analysis?

Sure, they´re not hard to ID from their weathering. From front to back: Triangles, TIE killer and MOM Y. The first pic you posted doesn´t show an ILM Y, just look at how off the canopy is, I always assumed this picture shows the old 1/72 Argonauts kit?

What I´d like to know is, where´s the Y with the copper piping and yellow panel on the nose?

Yeah, that first set of Y pics arent even of an ILM Y wing bud, Dan is right, looks like an SMT 1/48 model kit to me, so cross that off your list.

Received my kit couple days ago, its awesome and the plaque is a nice surprise, I am so glad I got one.

A big thanks to all who were involved to get this done.
