ANH Red Y... kit

Hey guys... The Red Jammer Y thats being offered as a kit was designed to essemble as close to the actual filming minature as possible. The build team designed the model so that its strong and no resin supports weight alone. The Y Wing hull is designed and mastered in a way that it has all of the common details of ALL the Y wings... ILM made one master and made copies and dressed them all out differently. The RED Jammer shares the basic hull and details of all Y wings but many of the add on parts are different. Cockpit...plant on details...engine details..thrust ventricals are all different...and many many more. Sorry guys we will not be offering individual parts from the Jammer kit. The Red Jammer project's success will drive further Y releases.
Adding Mike Salzo to the Y Wing team was one of the smartest things we've done. Red Jammer becomes available NOW rather than later to collectors who want accurate replicas of the movie models.
Model Industry Famed Jason Eaton has been contracted to build and paint the first Red Jammer kit. Jason is also going to develop the Instructions that go with the kit. I figured he's been the closest to the actual model... so a perfect person to do the first build up justice!
There will be ONLY 50 kits made of the Red Jammer. Once the number is reached it will be forever retired. I will be including a few secret special items with each kit. The additions will make a very nice companion piece to the kit. Only 35 or so of these will be available to modelers. Owed Y wings to previous customers and build team members will get the first kits... then it's first come first searved.
I'd like to thank the Red Jammer Y wing build team of John Curilla, Dan Loes, Isel Caro and Jamie Farthing. Great work guys!!!
Through the years a ton of information has been shared on the forum and over the phone... long hours of talking about lil model parts... we've all been there! So thanks to all here that make studio scale modeling happen!
A shout out to Doug Mayo (Basher), Lee (Ralphee), Frank Cerney and Nick your input and dedication to this craft through the years truely inspire... I hope the Red Jammer meets your expectations.
Mike is close to completing the molds and is planning on sending Jason the first castings very soon. Jason said he will detail the build here so folks can see it.

Cool, I can talk about it now? Yeah - going to do a full color instruction manual - will be available as a PDF, if that suits everyone, so people can print it and work from that, or off of monitors... it will be painstakingly detailed, so even idiots like me can follow along (it's a reaction against years of building Japanese resin kits with billions of parts and one or two black and white photos, with no English in the instructions!)
I am so unbelievably psyched about this! Steve, his team, and Mike really have tremendous respect and care for these model projects, and it shows. The Red Y has been a historically mysterious and alluring model for me since I was lucky enough to visit the real deal at the Archives in 2005... so it's a thrill to come full circle in a way, back to her.

Joe thats why i plan to swap one out into a gold Y, think i can do it using this as a base as Steve said, they do share hulls, and i think the neck length is negligable?
Love to do the Smithsonian bird, but we will see.

Okay, someone help me out, here. I don't particularly get hung up on accuracy if we're talking about some piping that bends a different way, or something. I have absolutely no problem with those who get all twisted into knots over a few scale inches or whatever, by the way. It's just not me. So, If I get this first version (assuming there will be others) and I paint it as a yellow Y-wing, will it look the part to SW fans who are not Y-wing researches? Oh, stupid question part two, would a correct "red" Y have red markings where the yellow markings are?
Silliest of all is that the Y is my fave sci-fi ship. My dream styrene kit (of those that can be imagined) is the Fine Molds 48th scale Y. So the fact that I don't care about accuracy to the degree that some other modelers do might surprise some. I have total respect for those that care about every aspect (and not a lot of respect for those that disagree) of a ship's accuracy to a specific filming model. Anyway, if you know the differences between the red and yellow Y's--regardless of qualities of this particular molding (which most haven't seen yet)--am I going to be happy?

Considering this is probably one of the most beautiful master patterns ever made ( ive seen many pics so i know ) and, Mike is casting it, your going to love it, i mean really love it, whether you count rivets or not!

As Lee said.... You won't be disappointed with this. I was impressed with my MR kit. And this looks to be fantastic. The y is one of those birds that just make you go wow. A lot of folks don't realize just how big this model really is.

I cannot wait for this kit even though I have enough to keep me busy, I have been waiting too long to miss out on it now, let me know when it is available. It really is looking great.
Steve, is there any target date for opening a list? I seriously don't want to miss out. I'm a wannabe customer for the Red ship FAR more than the yellow ones; it's my first love among Y-wings.

The model was the first one built, was painted at the time that the script called for the Y-wings to form Red Squadron and the X-wings to form Blue Squadron, and was shipped to England to serve as reference for the set builders. If you check the movie, versus ref pics of the Red model, you'll see they changed the full-size set piece markings to yellow but kept the same panel patterns.
I'm a nitpicker personally, but I think sci-fi modellers by and large care about accuracy somewhat less than air or armour modellers do. Relax.

However, as it's to be a limited release, you should definitely hold off and leave it open to us anal types who are terrified of missing out on the Red ship. :lol

I look at it like this... ILM built the red as the prototype of what a Y-wing is supposded to look like. and then built the rest to "resemble" the red with yellow/gold markings... if you/we follow a similar path - we're retreading some well laid paths
although I'll probably paint mine up as red - just becasue
If the price point isn't too far away I may follow up with a Gold leader as well... again just because

Yeah, this and the Yellow Y ones... been waiting to get something into my hands so I can draw up the art to the right size. So, the good news is yes, I will, and the bad news is that they're probably not going to beat the kit that will be delivered to your door!

WOWZA guys! The response for Red Jammer kit is amazing and We (Mike) are excited. Question.. do I start a Red Jammer order list thread in the junkyard of commited orders by screen name? I'd like to be very clear on whose on the list paid and shipped. I'm pretty confident we can hit the 50 mark... have about 15 to go and we have not listed it anywhere else. I'll give it here on the RPF for a few more days then advetise on other sites to finish up the run... :thumbsup I will keep everyone posted when we launch.
