Hi, thanks for the compliments. The parts you have are what I had, though I had the speaker grill piece too, this I moulded and did resin copies of to get the multiples. All the other parts I made i.e. the little greebly bits, the screen surround, the round buttons, ice cube tray, the large white light and the crt cover. I also had aOutstanding! I like how you have the pioneer indicator lit up. I'm working on one myself, but I'm only in the parts gathering phase. I have the Ranger tv, Pioneer indicator, Vernier dial, grate cover, and slide knobs. Where did you find all your parts? I'm especially having a hard time finding the crt cover, or whatever it is, on the front.
Thanks, it was a tricky one!Very nicely doneNot an easy prop to do for sure!
Thank you, it was difficult not to be too neat with it as the original prop was kind of roughly assembled and I wanted that look to some degree. That's a really great piece of work, and probably the nicest one I've seen.
Thanks, the original piece looks to be a crt shield, basically a thin metal shround that protects the actual tube. Finding the correct one is nigh on impossible. I turned the cone part on a lathe from model board and blended that to a length of aluminium tube, then made the end cap. Then just painted it up.Brilliant!
Very well done!
What did you use for the front probe?
I've always assumed it was from a CRT for an oscilloscope.
I was able to get hold of a complete QX-747, I removed the scope, took high res images of the front of it which I then printed. I moulded the rear end and made a resin copy, the body was a piece of aluminium tube which happened to be the exact size, getting it to light was a bit fiddly, but worth it. I put the QX back together and sold it for twice the amount I paid for it, result!I certainly understand not wanting to destroy a whole quad just to get the scope, especially if its working. I was fortunate enough to get just the scope. I had assumed the scope on yours was an original since it lights up. You really made a helluva copy of it.
Thanks ,I appreciate that. It's surprising how many original parts I was able to find, it's the bits that are unidentified that are hard because you don't know what to search for.Same here [emoji23] I’ve given up finding some of the original parts, so many hours of 3D modeling are waiting for me now... your tracker is a very nice reference, very clear and smooth finish!
the highest level to master is not always reproducing nearly 100% screen accuracy, but let it look “real”... you achieved booth, respect !!!
You have to be prepared to lose many hours online searching for parts, but they are still out there...mostly.I have the Ranger tv but that's as far as I got.
I'm SO jealous.
Thanks, yes, it was that thread that gave me the inspiration to do this, as alot of the parts had been indentified it was a great help.Very nice build!
I remember well the research thread on this prop, one of the most epic RPF threads I ever took part in!
Thanks very much.Looks amazing, loving it!
