Alien - Bretts headset

Got a set of Raclan minilites and of all the films they appear in, wanted to make them into Bretts set from Alien.

I couldnt find anything to use as a reference but when they arrived, it was fairly obvious what had to be done. The first adjustment was to unscrew the mic and expose the clip at the back end. Pop off the clip and the retaining nuts will just slide off, replace the clip and screw the mic back to the main unit.

Gently slide the rubber tip from the end of the mic, it is not wired to anything. The Alien headsets also have the main cable removed. Unscrew the tiny retaining screws around the main unit and remove the cable in what ever way you see fit. I did it carefully so that it could be reinstated later if needed. The two end parts on the headset have been cut flush by the props dept but they are screwed on so they could be replaced with scratch made ones if needed. As mine sit under a cap, its not a problem. The one addition i want to add in the future is the Letroset letters and numbers that have been added to each crew members headsets.

The one generic word on all sets is FLIGHTCOM but havnt worked out the rest of Bretts yet. I already had the hat but will replace the patch when TheMechanics new version is done.

nice! I had actually never noticed there were differences between the this and the aliens headset than just the fact that they were worn on the reverse side. just recently got my racal headset and wanted to keep it unpainted for a short film Im working on, I plan on selling it soon after completion. is altering back to its original condition difficult?

Cheers Demetrius, its very easy to put back together, its all about how you remove the cable, i cut it so a pro could solder it back on.

Also, watch Hicks' headset throughout the film - The orientation of the pads changes every few shots. It seems nobody was quite sure how they were supposed to sit!

That is funny! I've seen that movie so many times that when I opened my package containing the Racal I could not get the correct setup!
