ALICE's White Rabbit in New York

My shop created 58 White Rabbit heads for a guerrilla marketing campaign for the new SyFy "ALICE" show.

They did a bunch of stuff in New York. You can see footage on You Tube:

Or you can read about it on our company blog:

I'll try to post some behind the scenes construction pictures in the next day or so.

And if you have any questions, let 'er rip! I love to elucidate! 2 cents

I was watching it last night....And my first thought was "I bet there's gonna be a thread on the RPF about that." :lol

Possible spoilers ahead.

Yeah... not too much in the way of cool props in the show itself. So far anyway. Matt Frewer is doing a great job playing the White Knight. It was interesting that they re-interpreted everything design-wise except for the Jabberwock... which they took straight from the Teniel drawings.

But we did the promotional heads for the New York event. It was "kickin' it old school"... they were latex heads backed with polyfoam. The thing that we did that was a little different was to paint them with Plasti-Dip. Its a great product and tough like nails. Plus it'll stick to just about anything. And in this case, it only needed to be white, so it was pretty easy. We thinned the stuff and ran it through an automotive paint gun. Worked like a charm.

That's true, there aren't very many props in general in the show.

SPOILER -

The ring and the box would be cool to have though. :D

I thought he said "PI$$ OFF, YOU COW!", which is even worse! :lol I guess he figured what's the worst she could do, cut his head off again? :p

Yeah, he did.
so far the only thing I don't like is the Mad March!
I just think the design looks too cheap.

wow, great gig man. Congrats :)

The heads look great (and yeah, plasti-dip is good stuff for bulk painting, if they've got the color you need!)

That vid of them all dancing is just bizarre w/o sound! LOL I actually think they're even creepier just walking away at the end in a line.

great work :)

best,
Tom

Thanks Tom! Yeah, the whole step-dancing thing really doesn't do it for me. They didn't tell us they were going to be doing that so we didn't put in chin straps on the bulk order... just the initial three for the video shoot. We thought they were just going to be walking about. Like a briefcase drill team.

It really bugs me to see them constantly reaching up and adjusting the heads during their routine.

Of course, they didn't really inform the performers about the movement style of the white rabbit in the show, either... so there's a bunch of the guys in the walking line that are just schlubbing their way along. Just mosey-ing... it kinda sucks. They should be PERFORMING. Oh well, they probably got paid next to nothing to do the gig.

As far as using plasti-dip for painting custom colors, they now have a clear version that can be tinted or outright colored. I'd figure standard car paint colorants could be used in that, but don't quote me. Or urethane pigments. I wouldn't use anything that bore moisture.
