Hello,
Long time lurker, still working on my creature modeling skills (super sculpey mostly) so I can post something here that isn't laughable.
I just wanted to share my excitement with you all about a new, upcoming mmo, Albion Online. I thought there may be some like minded people here that were fans of old school mmo's such as Ultima Online, DAOC, etc. If so, you might want to give some serious consideration to this one. It is being developed by a upcoming developer in Berlin, Germany. It is currently in the mid to late alpha phase of production but is already looking solid and well polished. While still heavily being developed, what they release for testing is virtually bug free and already in playable format, just not all features and content are in. Some of the following features that lured me in are :
- Playable on pc. linux, tablets (soon to include iOS), yes, you will be able to do some crafting or gathering from your ipad while not totally abandoning your family.
- Full loot pvp- having a sense of loss in a game really creates meaningful pvp and helps player driven economy by requiring new gear upon death, which is all made from other players.
- Player driven economy- I know this has been mentioned in the previous point but this is truly a great feature. Sometimes we just like to kick back and craft. Now, not only can we do that but it actually will be a worthwhile effort. Most mmos today, don't get this. People spend God knows how long in a dungeon to get the top tier raid gear, which in turn, potentially kills the player economy. If they happen to be able to be able to craft gear as good as the raid gear, then its one and done, no repeat business because no one ever loses gear.
- Territory control- 5 vs 5 territory control pvp will be available plus the standard unlimited world pvp.
These are but a few of the great features this game has to offer. If any of these points grab your attention, head over to their website, checkout the forums and register for a chance at being included in their upcoming Alpha test on March 24th. There are additional ways to obtain alpha keys, contests accessed through their forums, facebook or twitter.
I can't speak highly enough of the staff. One thing that is way better than ye ole mmo's is their stellar communication with the community. They talk to us daily, sharing thoughts on how to improve the game, joking around and just building that sense of community that so many game forums are lacking.
Here is a link to their site. I hope to see you around and by the way, I have no affiliation with Sandbox Interactive, just a huge fan hoping to bring more people to a game I love. Albion Online
p.s. You will see me around soon posting up a creature. I just finished a Gizmo, Pan's Labyrinthe Faun and another one that focused on musculature but all were unfinished, just building skills at this point. When I finish one that doesn't make me disgusted, I will post it up.
