Akuma necklace.
Hey there lads and ladies!
I'm in the middle of helping one of my friends prepare a costume for an upcoming expo. He's a massive tanned bodybuilder with rippling veins out the wazoo. So, naturally, he decided to go as Akuma from Street Fighter.
Every element of the costume came together quite well; gi, ropes for round his waist and hands, thongs and so on but the hardest element BY FAR as Akuma's trademark massive ball necklace.
I spent WEEKS trying to source a solid looking necklace but I couldn't find a suitable one anywhere.
Cork balls, Styrofoam balls, plastic balls... Forget it. All truly useless materials for such an iconic piece of kit.
So, I rolled up my sleeves and made my own.

This is the result.
(Me, the author of this post, is wearing the necklace in that pic, not the massive bodybuilder - pics of his finished costume and a step-by-step to come)
This necklace is made from about 18 solid wooden balls, each 51mm/5.1cm/2inches in diameter. Because I was strapped for time, I opted to simply paint the balls brown to darken them up - as opposed to lacquering them.
Because each ball is 100% solid wood, the necklace does have a bit of weight to it - but it's a fair trade-off for how good it looks. (In my opinion anyway.)
All up it cost me just over $100 to make and, was literally done in one afternoon.
PM if you'd like more info on the necklace, want to know about where I sourced the materials or want to buy one yourself!
And watch this space for a full work up of the Akuma costume in the near future.
