Ahoy matey. Another Master Replicas Quality Control issue

Well, I was slightly underwhelmed with the Narnia sword, but since I like most all MR stuff I ordered the Sparrow sword. #50 out of 3000.

Of course the typical attention MR places on presentation is here in a 30 pound box, but I search for the sword amongs the styrafoam. It's dwarfsized next to the huge framed display panel but I see a blemish on the handle. It's obvious that the painting of the faux grain was wet when placed into the box.

OK, it looks bad but I'm sure the finish is good. I put a little goof off on a rag and gently dap off the styrafoam. well all the pain on the front side of the handle comes off immediately. I'll post pics of that later.

WHY? The quality control CURSE continues

sorry to hear that, buddy. i was looking forward to getting their potc stuff, but i feel reserved now. you should ask for a replacement.

cheers,

marc

Looks like the packing foam stuck to it. Try to use a sponge with warm water and see it if washes off. Hopefully you can clean it up easily.

The more I hear about MR and this kind of stuff, the less inclined I am to buy their product, especially the more expensive stuff.

That must be really disappointing, sorry to hear it.

"made in China" ...... :confused It's a shame that this seems to be happening on a more regular basis.....at least it seems that way.

Yup, the product is starting to scare the hell out of me, I was talking to another collector about my feelings on the mater the other day because I have one of the more expensive things on order. :cry

Mine showed up yesterday with the exact same mark(?). Maybe Amy can chime in on this. Is it a defect or is it part of the original prop? I'm curious too.
Cheers, Kevin

Over the past year, after seeing all the complaints and dealings with Master Replicas, I will probably never buy from them. Way too many quality control issues. Sending to China to produce it quicker so that they can get more money in their pockets.

Braiding on the handle?.....what is MR thinking?

I've handled the original hero sword before and the handle is aged dark wood with no braiding whatsoever.

Kinda hard to see in the picture but I'll dig up better reference later...

Nope, didn't do it, which is why I used the goof off and lost the graining in the handle.

I'm sorry to hear that. There goes the 1 in 3000 hope, as I wouldn't want anyone to have this too. Definitely styrafoam, definitely not intended. Bet big money it was undried paint at time of packing.

Roboprop, thanks for the pics. I guess I could "goof off" the rest of the faux paint (braiding was probably the wrong word, but you can see what I mean from the pics, like a faux black stained tiger maple?) and go for the distressed part. For this much money I shouldn't have to fix every prop sent out. I guess going from a styrafoam encrusted/embedded handle to a half flat colored & half detailed prop is some progress

It's definitely a flaw on their part.

Seriously, if you're not satisfied, send it back for a replacement. That's a lot of coin to spend on damaged goods.

Well here the version with the styrafoam wiped off.

Definitely contacting MR for a replacement and hopefully can replace only the sword itself vs the 30# box.

Try a adhesive solvent called UN-DU. Its a clear fluid just couple of drops and wipe it off. I have have came to many cases like that and it has saved the day. Usually it can be found in stores like Bed, Bath & Beyond or Linens & Things. They also have a website:

Un-Do.com

You should definitely give it a shot, its a great product. Hope it helps.

Well... I was going to get the sword only (not the compass or the istol as I have better-than-MR suitable replacements). Maybe not now...

I'd be mre concernd about the size -- I could probably fix the handle myself (though for 200 shemolias I shouldn't have to). but the size issue would bug the hell out of me.

Looking at a tape measure, I'd guess the original sword to be about 28 to 30 inches in length, certainly no more than 30 inches.

It's a very short sword.... very light and very balanced.
