Advice on FFXIV Gunblade Top Break Latching Mechanism?

Hey guys! I am going to print out and make the Lionheart Gunblade from FFXIV, so I bought some stl files to start with. My plan is to upgrade them and make the top break action, cylinder, and trigger mechanisms work as closely as I can to how they would on an actual revolver. The one thing stumping me from the get go is how the top-break latch works. I took some screenshots from the FFXIV Shadowbringers trailer of Thancred reloading it, but the way the latch moves makes no sense to me. Check it out:

If I can't figure it out, I'll probably end up going with webley design, but I was curious if anybody had seen this type of mechanism on a revolver before so I could study and hopefully replicate it. It may very well be a "this seems cool" logic and not be anything real, but I wanted to be sure. Let me know what you think guys. Thanks!

I thing it's in the "cool" section. I never saw a latch like it on a gun before:unsure: Besides, when looking at your pics, the hinges are resting on top of that ledge in front of the hammer. How that stuff is securing the whole thing is not working mechanically.
