Hello All, I attempted to Tint a Visor for my Daft Punk: Guy Manuel helmet yesterday and I think I got a little trigger happy. :)
I sprayed the inside of the visor and it actually looks very good but Visibility is very low. I mean, you can see out of it but at dragoncon
lighting is usually very low and seeing at night would be impossible..lol

So the visor is made out of .040 PETG so Im not 100% about Sanding it.. But I am sure I could get away with it. Anyone have any other remedy I may be able to try.. Maybe next time I will try a few thinner coats instead of a full on VHT coverapalooza!!!

LOVE YOU GUYS!!!!

Wazzup?

With my Guy Manuel Helmet tinting the visor was a challenge. I have only found 1 way to get a consistent tint that looks good and you can see out of pretty well. Use iDye Poly clothing fabric dye. Make sure you get the POLY version, otherwise the tint wont stick (learned this the hard way).

I 100% recommend this to dye your visor. I used Cosplay4UsAll's guide: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lGUf1VpvICI

I walked around at the Salt Lake Comic Con and the visibility wasn't perfect, but I could interact with people and walk around without running into stuff. Being able to hear people on the other hand...

Now, since you have already sprayed your visor with nightshade, it's going to be tough to salvage the visor. Is there anyway you can get another visor?

That is one beautiful lid. Actually this is my second visor I have attempted to tint. I used the POLY method first but the visor that The Prop maker I ordered from is quite thin. .040 PETG. It melted and deformed terribly and the water was quite cooler than specified. So I was a little scared to try that this go round. As far as ordering another Visor, I would rather not. The Visor itself is 40 dollars which I would pay all day long, would maybe even order a few..lol But they charge 30 dollars to ship them, Even though the last one I ordered the postage on the front of the box was around 5 Dollars :(

I thought about maybe just trying to rub the heck out of it with a microfiber cloth or maybe some really really fine steel wool (Less Rubbing obviously..lol) I just don't want to ruin the outside. Also the LEDs I have do not shine through very well either...lol

Sorry for the late reply.

Any luck with the tinting?

I've never worked with nightshade so I don't know how to help you bro, sorry. My PETG is .060 and I didn't notice any deformation when tinting it. Though to be careful I cooled the water down a fair bit and just left the visor to soak for a good 20-30 minutes, which seemed to do the trick.

Good luck man
