Actors who are Box Office Bombs

The Prestige might have been considered a flop at the box office, but man I love that movie...

Although, I don't see how it was a flop there, either. It made $53 mil in the US, and 54 mil internationally, with a budget of $40 mil.

Rule of thumb. A movie needs to make 3X it's budget to cover advertising and marketing, to be considered a success.

I dont think it is necessarily the actors but the stories and the directing.

Can christian bale be really to blame for terminator salvation? Sometimes studios will hirer actors to make up for the crappy script etc etc to save the film..Sometimes actors carry the movie with their acting performance..Salvation was too much of a crud to be saved

Also, the machinist and rescue dawn were release in limited release in certain areas. I wouldnt consider them flops because they werent given the full blown movie studio treatment

I would also say it is partially the economy. The days of "going out to see a movie playing at your local cinema because you have nothing else to do" is long gone. People nowadays do not have that type of disposable cash or even an entertainment fund.

Not to mention most of the movies nowadays are attacking 3-D like it was going out of style. Thank the studios for the new marketing strategy. Add 3-D, jack up the ticket prices for the special viewing, and make more profit in a shorter run!

Also quality movies today are just not there anymore. Most people wait 12-17 weeks, rent, buy, or download the movies.

The actors aren't really so sad by the flop of their movies because they still get paid regardless. Sharing in the profits is now a different story.

Just glad Michael Cera is on that list. He's one actor I do not wish to endure. Too bad he's casted in 'Scott Pilgrim vs. the World' or else I'd go see it. Michael Cera fighting and beating up lesbians?

DDDIIIIIIEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!:angry:angry:angry

There's also people there who do lots of work. You get someone who's made 20-30 films, and you can come up with half a dozen flops and hopefully half a dozen hits.

Kind of like dumping the Mr Fox movie on Clooney. I mean, it's a kids movie that kids didn't want to see. I seriously doubt anyone out there goes to see animated movies because of who the voice actor is.

Also, the flops mount when you cast for star power as opposed to who's best for a role.

Bruce Willis should have known much better than to do Cop Out. - Musta been a mega check.

That list is half bull****.

Half! You're giving that list all the breaks, kind sir.

There are some remarkable actors on that list. I don't judge the value of films by the box office. We can all list films that didn't make a dime that are rock solid and others that sucked you know what that were smashes (Twilight anyone?). It's Wonderful Life and The Wizard of Oz also were BO flops....

They also don't take into account that at $10 a ticket, a lot of people wait for Netflix nowadays for most run of the mill movies.

Yup. I have Blockbuster online and see only the occasional movie at the theater any more.

Thats true.

Rarely do movies flop because of actors. There's a few instances where that is the case... but rarely. It's a bunch of hack producers who interfere too much with the movie and script. The extremely high ticket prices, in a time where we have HDTVs, Bluray players and even I’m happy with my little upconvert DVD player. That’s why these people are flocking so much to 3D. So they can put butts in the seats.

It just shows actors can't pick a movie script, or project, any better than producers can. They seem to pick things according to how much fun it would be, how much money, or how they can 'stretch their instrument'.
Forget about yours, stretch mine.

One good thing about the old studios, they picked projects and told people 'you will be doing this movie next', and that made many great movies. [But I suppose so stinkers too, that have been forgotten.]

If we were covering the actors who instantly send TV series into cancellation, my vote would go to Brian Austin Green. :lol

Errr..... I do :$:lol

Well, not quite true.... I am more likely to see an animated flick if certain actors I admire the work of are featured.
That's the main reason I own The Secret Of NIMH. :love

Isn't that part of the point?
If something is fun enough to do for a living, wouldn't you accept the offers that sound like a whale of a time?
