After over a week's work, one of the several components that make up my P1 backpack is finished - the gun platform. I will be molding and casting it the next couple of days, but I just wanted to shoot some pix of the sculpt beforehand. It's 10:00 p.m. Sunday night and my ass is beat! Sculpting sure takes a lot out of me-----I spent all day just fine tuning all the edges and smoothing it out before hitting it with Crystal Clear. You will notice a couple of cutaways for a pair of access doors I'll be fabricating to include in the mold. Then----it's on to finish the rest including the Medkit which I've also been working on.
A few folks have been patiently waiting for their stuff, and this is what has been standing in the way. I need to get a casting over to Jerome so he can progress on the animatronics for this bad boy.
Enjoy -
A little update just to show some folks who may not know the process of how mold boxes are done. The soft yellow clay is used to create a clay bed that will trap the first silicone pour which will become one of two halves of the mold. It is important to lay in your clay bed in such a way as to create a seam that will allow easy removal of the cast piece with no undercuts. The 3 walls of the gun arm enclosure dictate that the top half of the mold would have to be lifted straight off, in the same direction as the walls. Every sculpt is different, its contours determining where the seam will be. The idea is to hide them by placing them on the edges of a structure, rather than on the sides of it. The holes along the edges form the keyways so that the two mold halves stay locked together without slippage. The little cone in the rear of the first photo is the resin pour vent, positioned there to hide it when the backpack is fully assembled. I can't wait until I flip this over to pour the second half - when I get to slather hot Vaseline! That's the **** right there.......
Thanks, Casey. Glad to see ya.
As far as my own suit, Lee---not even close to having something to show. You know what they say, "the boss gets paid last."
