Accurate Vader belt fastening?

No disrespect either, but I AM saying it as an absolute because it is.
I wouldn't say it if I didn't know for sure.
BTW, the boxes slide just fine on the belt, and it is very easily adjustable.
Just like a real belt for non-costuming purposes.

Vince,

I notched the leather out and folded it over the buckle, and then I attached it with 2 chicago screws. If you need anything else lmk..

Later!:)

Hey guys thanks for all the input and thanks for confirming what I believed was correct. I'll definitely be upgrading my belt to a front fastening system when I get the new buckle from ddocvjm.

I was just going to get one of these blank buckle loops and hooks from Tandy Leather and epoxy it to the back of the Vader buckle: http://www.tandyleatherfactory.com/products.asp?number=1803-00

Editied: I now see from the pictures posted that holes are visible!

So what is with this one ?

http://public.fotki.com/DanakinSkyw...ries/2007/star-wars-celebrati-1/dsc06871.html

property of Danakin Skywalker and about the only decent series of photos of the Vader stuff they had on display at Celebration IV.

Guys, I can´t believe that noone took the time to go and take decent pics of the OT stuff they had on display ! Danakin focused on the PT Vader b/c he is building one, totally excusable. But noone took pics of the backsides of the belt boxes, the belts, the helmets and the chest box ?! Really gets me riled up. And sad. And angry. And sad again. And sleepy...

I saw several vader items in that case and did take shots of them, but nothing there aside from the ROTS items were screen used as we saw them on film. LFL has had a history of holding back the screen items and typically puts their tour items on display instead of their screen pieces. This is either because they no longer have the screen pieces, or are unwilling to show them off. Regardless, keep in mind that these "on tour" items aren't typically screen used. The prequel stuff usually is authentic however. Go figure. The pyre helmet from Jedi was an exclusion to the rule. It was real, but too bad you couldn't glean much info in it's burned state. :(

Hey Dave, but those "tour items" do feature some similarities to the screen used stuff. I just take a wild guess and say that the screen used items are just not out there on display due to their small number ?

And can we have a look at the pics you took ? There still have to surface tour pics that show stuff that was on display somewhere. And then again, the "tours" are quite badly documented, noone seems to really be in the know about this stuff :\

Thanks,
Michael

It looks like the double lights on that belt box are red? And two red lights on the chest box? Interesting...

Back when the special editions were being promoted, they put out this huge rare 8 ft esb vader cardboard display. It was reminiscent of the vader shoot where he is on the pink background. However they replaced some aspects of the photo with other parts of different photos like the helmet and chestbox. Their perspective was off which made the whole thing just look odd. That chestbox with the two red buttons was used as the replacement for that shoot.
Kind of hard to explain unless you saw what the standee looked like.

Anyway, at C4, the chestboxes were either post production boxes that were detailed up incorrectly, or film used boxes that were incorrectly restored. Too much as been tinkered around with to be able to tell for sure just from those pics.
Same deal with the belt.

Like was said earlier, you can't glean alot of useful info off of Prequel vader items as they are vastly unlike the OT pieces. And the tour items are just as inaccurate in both looks and construction as the screen items were also. I'm not knocking tour pieces as they have their proper place in movie history as well, but the screen items are just a good deal different. :)

Dave

I will say this, two of the chestbox items have very accurate proportions to at least 2 screen used boxes, but they've been re-constructed and re-decorated inaccurately. Chances are, it's not just painting inaccuracies but some of the parts are off as well. :)

Thanks for the explanation. It is always interesting to see these tour items and how different they can be from screen used ones. Would love to have seen that 8ft Vader :eek

Well, I can see a front buckle belt buckle hole in the belt on a screen used ESB belt right here.

I agree, that for a display, the front closure is the way to go. With the front closure, you are a bit limited in your belt settings since you have to get that visible hole to line up in the correct location.
For trooping, the back closure might be more practical, as it allows more flexibility in waist sizes, without having to adjust the relationship of the items at the front of the belt.

Yeah, I figured I would add the hole in the front on mine but keep the fastener and adjustment in the back. Mine is for wearing and this would just be easier for me (though less accurate).

And yeah James, where is that pic from? Do you have the entire picture? Some great detail in that shot.

I got that pic here on the RPF.

That's David Prowse from a British tv show made during/after ESB holding a weird Vader saber. I believe they were in Elstree on a SW set for the tv show, with some of the props and costumes on display. I guess is was '78-'80.

That should be one of, or made up from, screen used ESB Vader costume pieces.

I Had asked this very same question in the Sith Forum Months ago, Just seems practical to have it in the front and with long hours on the Sets, "When go gotta go, you gotta go!!! but you can have the best of both worlds, For my Static ANH Vader I Plan to l go with the fasining in the front. but for Trooping I'll go with the back, because I have a two holed beltloop that holds it pretty sturdy for those Trooping event. Nothing worse then while your walking you bend over to shake hands with the Kiddies or catch it on something the the Belt pops off and don't get me started on those Drunk Old Ladies. C
