Lookin good so far Bob!

What made you want to make a new one?

(also... when do we get to see the Tumbler and Begins ensemble in its full glory?)

That's a nice piece o' clay, there. Is it water clay or oil base?

So? will you build the '89 batmobile too? (Please say "yes")

5 yrs. ago, I struggled to decide if I would build the tumbler, or the 89. I opted for the tumbler, but I was right on the verge of the 89. The suit I had done once before, but then got rid of all of it. So again from scratch. this is water clay. about one days work. Will be in foam latex. Here's the belt master form.

Here's the back, never quite sure about the back, as most of the pics left are of old worn, or distorted foam latex.

I understand that's what the original was made from but do you get a different result using water based clay instead of oil based clay?

It's still foam latex in the end result. I'll have to assume that it changes something .
Besides having to do it before the clay dries out and starts to crack.

I don't know ya know, it's strange. the original suit was done in water clay. so, I figured why not, on the original foam pieces you can kinda see that it had been done in water clay groomed with a sponge, or something. But I suppose the same effect could be done in an oil based clay. just don't do the automotive sweeping thing too much, use a solvent instead of water. Down side to water clay is the constant maintinece of it all. either too wet, or too dry most of the time. Gotta keep it wrapped in something wet, and keep checking to make sure that doesn't dry out, can't just walk away forget about it all. Up side is it's quick. If you know the piece, or know exactly what you're after in a sculpt, you can get the whole thing done much quicker.

I saw a chat board favorite batmobile poll somewhere, and the favorite car was the 89' with about 68%, followed by the tumbler about 27%, then the 95' and 66 with less than 6%. it's amazing that with all the high-tech, lots of detail is best world we live in that this still has relevance after all these years.
