I'm not sure if your joking, but I guess that makes since why the cockpit canopy never looked right to me.
I've seen the footer in person and it is truly amazing, but I too prefer the proportions of the 32" Falcon.

The proportions of the “5 footer’s” cockpit look great to me. Of all the incarnations of the falcon used, the “32 incher” is the only one whose cockpit had pointy proportions. All others used (or tried to use) the proportions of the “5 footer”, except the “10 incher” and the tiny one on the star destroyer, both of which were stubbier. Even the “10 incher’s” cockpit is not too far off the “5 footer’s” proportions. But I imagine that tiny one was a bear to build, and it’s cockpit proportions do have significant deviation. The “full size” sets, interior AND exterior, took their cockpit proportions from the “5 footer”, as did the matte paintings.
I am at a loss to understand why the model builders chose such a different set of cockpit proportions when they built the “32 incher”. The only thing I can think of is they had some object that was handy and quick, since it was a rush job. Either that or someone goofed, and there was no time to correct it. And since it was originally only meant to be seen in the rapid moving sequences or from a distance, they didn’t worry about it.
Keep in mind that when Lucas altered the original trilogy, the “32 incher” was used to replace the other falcon sets or models in certain scenes, and to create the Mos Eisley escape scene. Personally, I am sorry that choice for the revisionist history was made, but that’s just me.
