It´s most likely useless to post this, but it reminds me of a large battleship turret, possibly with another part stuck on top, as you said.

I agree that the shape looks right for a turret, but I would expect the edges to be sharper if it was from a model kit. The edges look rounded. Toy-like.
It looks to be about 3/4" across (2.5cm) I'm guessing?
