20:1 lego man !

:lol Awesome! Are you going to make it into any particular character or just the generic Lego figure? That's a great idea...

Hi Tom,

I have to know, what is your process for bending wood? I wanna guess sawing reliefs & steam, but the curves are so smooth! :thumbsup

Thanks,

Mike

Mike, i used 5mm bendy ply , its made the same as normal ply only when they glue the layers together, they glue them all in the same direction.

I think i used its maximum potential on that though, you could just use 1.5mm ply would give a better finish, as when i used the 5mm as u bend it the grains start to open up so alot of sanding and bogging is needed.

starting the head tommorow!

Heres the progress on the head, used 7mm ply to stack up the rings to create the curves around the neck and top pieces, then cut the ribs to seperate them. All surrounding the inside pipe which sleeves over the neck. Next will be to lay the 1.5mm Ply skin around the head, then bog the curve and sand sand sand...

That's going to look really great!
I remember we built a 2m tall one for a client nearly ten years ago.
It's still one of the nicest things we've ever made - such a timeless design.
I think I may have to build a new one!
Can't wait to see yours finished.
