Not sci-fi related but I finally finished this model after almost 2 years of on and off work and wanted to post it. I've built some 1/700 scale ships in the past but wanted to try to go all the way with sea diorama, and all the photoetch, detail parts, and rigging I could muster. Turned out to be incredible complex and resource intensive.

The heavy cruiser USS Baltimore CA-68 in her 1944 configuration in the Pacific. I custom built the base, sea-scape, and case and bought a photoetch set and 3d printed 20mm and 40mm bofors guns and mounts, and fire directors. I tried to take care in accurately depicting the colors and dazzle camo scheme. It's not easy to find color photographs from this era but I think I ended up doing fairly well after much research.

USS_Honolulu_(CL-48)-Tarn.jpg Here's one of the few color examples I could find of the contemporaneous camo scheme.

I also scratch built the open hangar bay door and hangar deck. Haven't put anything in there yet because I later learned that the Kingfisher sea planes wings don't fold (I believe).

And here's what I ended up with:

I'm so happy with how it came out and it will look great on my shelf!
