Build Thread:

So... After a couple weeks of deciding what to build with my CNC machine, I decided to start a build thread on a Stargate T-Ring.

My intention is this guy here,

My intention is to work on this piece by piece, I don't have a table large enough to do the entire ring at once, but I can probably cut it up into 6-8 sections... My other idea was to do each section in between each little post. Not sure yet which approach I want to start with.

That all being said, keep an eye here for updates! As we progress, Ill upload pictures. But for now, Just working on scale and 3D model!

Two images of the 3D model I'm working on for visual purposes only. As stated above, Ill be making this in many sections. I've colored the parts that will be done individually.

So this my first test piece. I want to build this as light as possible so I'm going to build the shell and then spray foam inside. I plan to cover it with a wooden veneer.. That's the plan so far... I don't know If its the best, so if you have other ideas, let me know. For the areas that have detail, they will be CNC'd into the wood.

The picture above is about 7 inches tall and 16 wide. Its the little (But not so little) separators that go around the ring. 2 of them will be slanted inwards with a cover on the front. Ill spray foam inside to provide support and cover the sides with a thin veneer.

Edit: Also, the bottom of the image, where the wood is fillet'd, it shouldnt be. I've corrected that for the next time... I need to cut about 66 of them.

Thats not a bad idea actually... I was planning on getting some for 2 signs I was going to make. Didnt think about using it for this though.... Just have to find a source

Thanks :p

I realize that it was a miniature, but it is what was filmed.

Good luck with the project!

That's... impressive and ambitious. I look forwards to seeing your progress on this. How are you going to display it?
