1:1 Frankenstein/Boris Karloff Tribute bust

Hey everyone, This is 'Karloffenstein', he’s a 1:1 translucent resin bust. This is my original take on the Frankenstein monster, I thought about it for a long time, there were a lot of signature things that I wanted to include in my version, like the brow and his dimple in the cheek, and I also knew that I wanted to incorporate Karloff's likeness. To make sure that the likeness was accurate I started by doing a full sculpture of Karloff, then once I was satisfied with it, I added & altered it to my design.

I plan on doing my Interpretation of some of the other classic monsters as well in the future, just wait until you see what I have planed for his bride.

I'd love to hear what you all think.

I really like it! :cool

I still love the classic version, but I like how you've made yours more like a "stitched together man made from corpses and hardware". The original is not very patchwork looking (I guess because they were limited in how gory they could take it in the 1930s). Also I never cared for the original's "flat head" but yours fixes the problem elegantly.

Not sure how I feel about the Baron Underbheit jaw though. ;)

agreed, absolutely beautiful, i love the paintwork, the weathering on the jaw is amazing, although im not a big fan of the actual jaw itself, something about the teeth throws it off for me

that design is very interesting and very well executed. Not the typical generic stuff:thumbsup

BTW I love Trap Jaw from MOTU, that´s where I have my nickname choosen from.

Amazing work.

I love the rest of the things on your website, too (although you really need to update the "what's new" page!).

Fantastic sculpt and outstanding painting. As far as the design goes, I really like everything but the teeth on the jaw, it makes him less pityful and sympathetic.

Thanks everyone for all the great complements, I really appreciate them all!

Not sure how I feel about the Baron Underbheit jaw though.

Whoa, that’s awesome, what is that guy from?
I’ve heard the reference to Trap Jaw, and the Tinman from Oz, and I suppose they could have had a subconscious influence.

My site is really in the need of an up-date. My most up-to-date portfolio is my myspace photo gallery: http://www.myspace.com/dreggs88

As for the ones of you that are on the fence about the jaw, thank you for your honesty. It’s refreshing to find a forum that people are open and honest with their opinions.
I tried a few different jaw designs, and I felt this one was the right one for the feel and presents that I was going for with this character. I wanted a good mix of sympathetic and terrifying, otherwise he wouldn’t be misunderstood. ;)

Thanks again for all the great comments, and the warm welcome.

I just saw this bust in person and it is AMAZING! Way better than in the pictures, I was blown away by this one!
