1:1 Alien Egg

Hello rpfers, it's my first post here, I have to admit since I discovered this site some months back, every time I visit therpf.com, I find myself spending waaaaay too much extra time reading all the various threads on this site every time I log in. lol.

I made these alien eggs for my 2010 Sci-Fi/Horror Halloween party a couple of weeks ago. I purchased giant 16" tall Easter eggs from the only online company I could find (although I could have also used paper mache over oversized balloons process too.)

I used Great Foam to build up approximately 1" on top of the plastic egg surface, then sanded down the most obvious foam bubbles to smooth some of the surface then I used a dremel to shape and detail the egg specifically around the lip opening section. I finished the process using Smooth-On Smooth-Cast 320 liquid plastic (although I should have purchased the Smooth-Cast 321 liquid plastic as it has a longer pot life.)

I made 5 eggs; 3 closed, 1 semi-open, and 1 fully open. I also added tendrils along the bottom as they were in Aliens.

I am not completely satisfied with the color, I can't seem to find really clear screen caps from either the first Alien or Aliens movie and I am under the impression that the Alien eggs also changed in appearance and color in each movie too. The eggs look black, however, under a brighter light, you can see some dark green and brown hues on it as well. If anyone has an idea of the correct color and/or has good clear screen caps from either the first or second movie, please let me know.

I'm open to critique and please let me know your thoughts. I am planning on finishing the eggs with a coat of liquid latex for that 'organic' just laid effect and possibly hot glue around the openings on the 2 opened eggs.

They look nice but they are a bit undersized.
They are light tan with the transparent amber bottom.
Pink inner lips with the white Nottingham Lace(cow stomach), below that where the hugger is it's light pink.
The face huggers "tube" was a sheeps intestine

Wow, I had no idea that they were that large. I believe mine are approximately 18" tall. Looks like these are about 24"-28" tall? Great screen caps btw.

What great replicas. I'm starting a project of my own and would love to know where you purchased the 16 " tall eggs.

for me they look very good , for 5 eggs to put in a lobby room or somewhere like that take a lot of space ...

I originally purchased them from here: Sexy Bloomers - Easter on Paradehttp://www.sexybloomers.com/html/index.stm
Their site is a little jacked up and confusing, but they do not sell 18" or 24" eggs, only the 16" version, and when I purchased them, she said that I bought the last 5 they had in stock. The sticker on the actual eggs is from 'Union Products' item #69040, and you can see this item here: http://www.cadocompany.com/pdfs/cado-union-products-sell-sheet.pdf search for item #69040 (picture is stretched, but it will maintain an egg shape.) I called this company, and the guy there was under the impression that he had more of these eggs for sell.

I was also informed that some other sites may carry similar 'large' Easter eggs around Easter as well. Good luck.

Though undersized to the screen used versions, I think they look really great. Did you cast these up? or just did 5 separate eggs? If you make casts, try doing them in translucent resin, as they were slightly see-through in the first movie. And go for a more brownish color... as the screen used tan may look a bit too light unless you are going to put them in a darkly lit room.

Really well done! :thumbsup

Thank you so much! Happy new year.

Did you happen to take pictures as you built them? I am very interested in doing this same thing for a front yard display this year for Halloween. This is very inspiring.

They truly looked incredible, although most of our photos and videos couldn't film well in the extremely low lighting.

We also used green ambient lighting up above and out of sight to provide just a little bit of green reflection on everything.
