    Skyrim Steel Dagger

Thanks. I cleaned up the print lines as best I could with some cheapo Harbor Freight needle files. After that two coats of primer with a little more filing/sanding in between and then the layers of paint smoothed it out super well.

    Skyrim Steel Dagger

I've done some simple paint jobs with spray cans (like painting a cheap toy phaser) but I always shied away from anything metallic. Plus most of my attempted projects haven't gotten this far. I tend to start a relatively difficult project and then run out of free time long before I get to the...

    Skyrim Steel Dagger

I decided to make a steel dagger replica from Skyrim as a Christmas gift for my little sister. Typically I like to make my own models for 3D printing, but due to time constraints I can't take credit for this one (I downloaded it from Thingiverse). After a bunch of rounds of sanding, a few...

    FarScape Pulse Pistol

Divided it up into a couple of pieces. Unfortunately the main section unstuck from the platform after eight hours of printing, so now I've got to re-print entirely or print the last inch or so and try to hide the seam. Anyway, I went ahead and stuck the pieces together with a little hot glue...

    FarScape Pulse Pistol

I printed the grip first as a test and it was just horribly uncomfortable. So I've adjusted some dimensions a little and reworked a lot of the smoothing. I considered the one on Thingiverse but after looking over the model in SolidWorks I just wasn't quite happy with it.

    FarScape Pulse Pistol

I've got a few projects that I really should finish. But the weather (and procrastination) is preventing that... so instead I just started a new one. I always kinda liked the pulse pistol in FarScape, so I made a model of it in SolidWorks. Once I get through a few of my other 3D printing...

    Assault Phaser Build

Thanks. This print is a test, since I'm working exclusively from pictures I really needed to get something physical to make sure I'm on the right track. I agree that a separate emitter and front cover would make things easier, I'll definitely do that on the final version.

    Assault Phaser Build

Finally finished my first test print. I cut it up into more manageable pieces because I didn't have a bunch of time to print it all at once. Some areas needs a bit of sanding before I glue it all together but here it is loosely fit together with some rubber bands and such: My goal with this...

    Assault Phaser Build

Maybe I just haven't looked around enough, but it seems like this phaser doesn't get enough attention. Not many people seem to build these. It's a cool prop imo. Plus I needed a fun project for my new printer.

    Assault Phaser Build

Another Update: Almost ready for the first test print now. Got a few minor issues to work out and then I'll probably slice it up and print a test to make sure I'm on the right track here. The working version will take much more time and effort, but hopefully it will be worth it.

    Assault Phaser Build

Just about all of the details on the left side are present now (They aren't perfect yet, but probably good enough for my first print). I'm fairly happy with the way it's turning out so far, but any criticism or advice would be appreciated.

    Assault Phaser Build

I don't mind at all. I'm using SolidWorks on this project.

    Assault Phaser Build

Minor update. All the major pieces are blocked out now. Lots of little details to add before my first test print.

    Assault Phaser Build

Still a long way to go, but I've made a little progress. I'm thinking once I get all the external details to a point that looks right I'll print a solid one and see how it turns out. Then I'll start breaking out individual components and designing the working assembly.

    Assault Phaser Build

A couple of days ago I decided it would be cool to make an "assault phaser" from Star Trek V and VI. With that goal in mind I started working on a 3d model. For now I'm working on the overall shape and outside surface details. Once I get that to a point where I like it I'll move on to designing...
