We spent about $100K in tooling before we had pulled the plug. Aside from the samples we had at SDCC that year, we didn't build any. The interest was so low that we decided to take the $100K loss plus the licensing loss.
Yeah. This was a bummer to cancel. I would have liked to have had a set myself. The issue was the severe lack of interest in the film and the replicas. It did not make sense to continue manufacturing with such a poor level of excitement for the props.
I'm worried that it will be hokey. Production companies haven't done a great job of depicting the Predators as the super badasses that they are supposed to be. Adding a comedy element to is might be okay if they handle it like Bill Paxton in Aliens. In the end, how hard can it be to make a film...
The designs for the new movie will vary significantly. They will streamline the gauntlet and helmet, etc. Guaranteed. You won't have this clunky sheet metal gauntlet like in the other movies. It's just like all movies now and remakes. They add so much detail to props and costumes now...
I will be posting some info about the Layaway plan shortly. I know there are quite a few waiting to find out what that plan will be. We will be extending the cut off date accordingly as well.
I'm not certain that we will or will not be including sounds in these. We are striving to make replicas that are as accurate as possible. Sounds are generally not generated by hand props for motion picture use.
We are including lights and camera cue flashes where applicable.
If it works out, we will offer the layaway program on an ongoing basis.
We plan to explore sounds on all our offerings, but ultimately it comes down to two things- how much it will impact the final price, and the sound quality.
Unfortunately, we could not add sounds to the Standard Issue and...
Thanks for being patient as we sort through all of this. Here's an update...
LAYAWAY PLAN:
We will be offering a 4 payment layaway plan. It will require a $100 USD deposit and 3 additional payments. We will alter the shopping page to offer that option. If the option did not exist when you...
We will post when we decide about the final cut off date. We will purchase additional replicas as well but those will be gifts for producers, actors, etc. They will be part of the same numbering sequence. World wide and production gifts included, we will be upward of 700.
The Standard Issue will ship with the ambient blue lighting and a trigger actuated white muzzle flash.
We explored adding sounds, but to have them the quality we wanted would have caused delays and increased the price, so it was decided to offer them as we made them for the film. It is a...
The small button on the side controls the pop up mechanism. There is a rectangular button on the back side that triggers the LED flash.
The back was supposed to be a touchscreen display, like an iPhone. I was surprised they didn't do an insert shot showing the controls.
Here is something fun, a little "making of" video of the sets, props and vehicles of MIB 3. It contains some spoilers, so if you haven't seen the film you might want to hold off...
