WTB replica Zorro Costume from the Mask of Zorro

When it’s done, it’ll be set with 200+ silver studs, finished leather piping around the edges, and both the correct buckle at the back and scabbard clips at the side. The buckle at the back should make one size fits most, which was a great choice on the film production’s part. I figure I’ll...

WTB replica Zorro Costume from the Mask of Zorro

I’m finishing the belt from a client who commissioned it and ghosted; I can send you some photos if you’d like. As for the rest of the costume, it really depends on how accurate you want it. It all seems like simple black garments, but then you notice all that custom appliqué trim both around...

LOTR Faramir Full Costume WIP - Pic Heavy

More cuirasses out every few weeks, and while these documented steps haven’t changed, the process gets more consistent each time, including more accurate patterns, custom leather stamps, and little tweaks to help keep the pieces removable, like snaps on the padded sleeves instead of stitching it...

LOTR Faramir Full Costume WIP - Pic Heavy

In fact, there needs to be a seam on the inner side of each boot, both for accuracy and for the pattern to be functional! I still have the rough pattern, which needs follow-up as it’s sewn, but here’s a rough idea of the steps:

LOTR Gondorian Fountain Guard Helmet out of EVA Foam

This was really neat! I really liked the simple solution for the gold leaves around the edges. Thanks for sharing!

2022 The Batman Cowl - Reference Pics

If it’s meant to look like a handsewn leather cowl, try looking for #5 waxed nylon thread. Similarly thick thread (just unwaxed) for industrial sewing machines is #138 thread, or size FF in military terms. I’ve used both for sewing LOTR and similar medieval projects, and you can get a very...

My Rick O'Connell, The Mummy outfit & Holster pattern

Fantastic leatherwork especially, props for catching the details no one else did!

BBC Robin Hood - Season 3 Costume build

I thought my Faramir build was going to be the ultimate eyelet-based replica, but I was quite mistaken. These edges alone have already consumed as many eyelets as Faramir’s entirety. The leather whipstitching is Tandy Kodiak lace. I suspect I’ll be using most of the spool.

LOTR Faramir Full Costume WIP - Pic Heavy

If you're talking about the sleeveless tunic, it's a very simple pattern. You're basically taking a very long shirt, cutting off the sleeves, and splitting it up the sides, front, and back to make 4 evenly-divided sections. Making it more professionally was another matter. I can offer some of...

BBC Robin Hood - Season 3 Costume build

Hey SMP, that’s some fantastic advice for leather quilters! As a matter of fact, I DID use Super77 as the adhesive for 99% of the bonding across this build, but even a light layer proved too difficult to pull a welt cord through the sewn channel. That absolutely would have been different if I’d...

BBC Robin Hood - Season 3 Costume build

Here’s my account of quilting leather without any of the recommended tools. It doesn’t just apply to Robin Hood, though (y) First, a basic doublet pattern. the pieces were then cut out from a soft plonge-weight leather, as well as from some plushy artificial wool bonded to a microsuede...

Leather bound copy of "There and Back Again a Hobbit's Tale" from the Fellowship of the Ring movie

Indy Magnoli is the guy, I’d say. If someone has a better suggestion feel free to share. Just look for the Red Book of Westmarch, by Magnoli Props. It’s definitely worth it.

BBC Robin Hood - Season 3 Costume build

While I hunt or wait for accessories for Faramir, Flynn Rider, or the Dread Pirate Roberts, I figured I’d use some of the experiences from these builds and build a replica I’ve wanted since I was a kid: Robin Hood, specifically his Season 3 outfit. Say what you will about the campy show, I’ve...

    Custom belt buckles

Looks pretty darn swanky! I don’t have access to a metal 3D-printer, but I’d commission that in a heartbeat to anyone willing, and certainly offer my own leatherworking experience towards the belt itself.

LOTR Faramir Full Costume WIP - Pic Heavy

Had to browse through my IG feed to find old WIP pictures, but here’s the quiver. I basically made a paper pattern, traced out the body, and cut the trim pieces off the pattern. Dyed the pieces individually, glued the trim in place before punching holes and hand-stitching everything together...
