Zero, the dog from Nightmare Before Christmas

Zero and I had a great time at the Halloween festival. He did pretty well but I will definitely need to upgrade the motors and tires before next year. The grass drained his batteries quickly. I didn't succeed in getting his head turning this year. At least two people said that it would be...

Zero, the dog from Nightmare Before Christmas

I managed to patch up the mistake I made cutting the neck for Zero. I also found mask in Walmart's halloween section. It'll be useful for when we go to events later this month. I decided to just tape over the LEDs on the circuit boards. While Zero was off the base I got a decent photo of the...

Zero, the dog from Nightmare Before Christmas

Zero's moving and barking now. I've still got some things to fix but I like how he's working so far.

Zero, the dog from Nightmare Before Christmas

Aaaand failure. You'd think I'd remember something like this by now. This is at least the third time in my life that I have painted something flexible and neglected to get paint that can flex. I took the skin off because the frame needed to be glued and this was the result. Seems I should have...

Zero, the dog from Nightmare Before Christmas

I am super happy with how this ghostly glow effect is working. Even with the pumpkin nose lit up I can still see it.

Zero, the dog from Nightmare Before Christmas

Time for paint. My friend said this material took paint very well and he wasn't joking. It only took a single coat of white primer for great coverage. I decided to just go with the one so I can see if I can make some interesting internal lighting later. I followed this with a light and random...

Zero, the dog from Nightmare Before Christmas

Thank you. Sketchy doesn't get impressed by much unless it is food. I had a plan for the pumpkin nose that involved an Arduino Nano, RGB Pixel, and programming to get a flickering effect. Thankfully while talking to a fellow droid builder he said "just get a tea light, they have an LED that...

Zero, the dog from Nightmare Before Christmas

Years ago I wanted to make a different top for my K-9's (Doctor Who) chassis so I could swap it out and do something different easily. Well, I finally got around to doing that. Meet Zero. Right now the head is one I found at Spirit Halloween. I'm going to sand down the mold lines, cut off the...

    BT-1 the Blastomech

Disclaimer, I do not arm him with rounds at conventions. I am going to print some orange plugs for the guns. Now, on to the fun. In true BeeTee fashion he shot me as soon as he got the chance. Prior to this video I did a test. His gun clicked but for some reason wouldn't fire a dart. That...

    BT-1 the Blastomech

Mobicon is this weekend and BeeTee joined me as my solo droid (static BB-8 doesn't count) this convention. One, because Chop is in bad shape and two, there's a tropical storm barrelling down on us and I don't want to wrangle multiple droids through it. Standard pre-con photo with Marks47 and...

    Gonk Gonk Gonk

Thank you for the sounds. I am planning a Gonk soon and it will definitely get used. Your Gonk looks awesome.

    BT-1 the Blastomech

Blastomech update and a lot of showing off. BeeTee, Chopper, BB-8, and I attended a new local con called Forward City Con in Foley Al. Unfortunately the other droid builders and the 501st garrison couldn't make it. Weather threats were pretty severe but it held off until...well, it still hasn't...

The chain gun works properly. Next up will be to get it wired into the droid and mounted on the shoulder.

    BT-1 the Blastomech

I've been working on the electronics to make the foam gun work. I think I have it sorted so next time I'll be wiring up the gun. The remote trips the relay to provide voltage to the gun. I've already modified the trigger to be "always on" so as soon as it gets power it starts to shoot. I'm...

    BT-1 the Blastomech

Some of them like the footshells where I am backing the seams with fiberglass. Usually I weld the ABS using acetone. The superglue gel holds very well and fills seams. I just prefer to acetone weld whenever I have a large surface area of ABS.
