I'd recommend wrapping masking tape around it too, both for when you use the punch to dent the metal as well as when you drill. It'll protect it a bit if you slip, it's what I do.

Good first attempt, however, I think if you started over, you could save yourself a lot of work. It all looked really good up until the fiberglass stage. From what I can tell in the photo, you started laying fiberglass matting on the -outside- of the helmet. You don't really want to do that...

If you go the route of starting over, it's not a complete loss. I've chopped up old/failed molds and used them to bulk up new molds that I've poured. As long as it's the same material, you should have no problems. I've never noticed oomoo having any trouble sticking to itself, even with molds...

Holy crap. These actually look very nice. A lot of people make really ugly hardware sabers, sticking random bits and pieces together, but you seem to have found a lot of parts that look like they really -belong- together on a saber. Very nice. Welcome to the forum.

Maelstrom's hit the nail on the head. Great tutorials there. However, I've always had trouble finding the right thin walled PVC. Asking Lowes/Home Depot employees for the thin walled stuff usually results in a blank stare. Any tips there?
