Is that all there is to Blue Ray?

I think blu-rays look great, however, I'm not too keen on re-buying films on another disc based storage medium. I look at fans who still buy physical copies of things as serious collectors, almost like archivers, so it makes little sense to me that we would want our films on scratchable little...

Stormtrooper pepakura - TERRA RETURNS! WITH PICS!

Glad to see an update. It's amazing, wonderful work. I've been researching the helmets a bit more lately and have to say that I really can appreciate a more "Idealized" version such as yours. I'd like to think in that fictional universe that the Empire wouldn't have lopsided helmets like the...

What's on your workbench? (no Star Wars, Marvel or DC stuff)

Re: What's on your workbench? Decided to make a mold of my DP 95 Boba Fett helmet a while back. The shape wasn't all that bad, but I hate that vinyl material, I wanted something stronger. Still filling and sanding, but it's coming along. I went ahead and turned it into an antenna-less...

Laserdisc to dvd Star wars conversion

Perhaps this is a bit naive, but does anyone else think that almost immediately after George Lucas dies those who end up taking over the companies will set in motion the remastering process? What better way to capitalize on his death than by releasing the true original versions of the films...

    Mould Tutorial?

I recently made a mold with "cheap" materials, and I think I spent about as much on those materials because of the amount of materials needed, along with problems and screwups inherent to using an inferior product, as I would have just buying one batch of smooth-on products and doing it right...

Resin casting and bubbles: would this work?

I personally have not had any luck with vacuum degassing resin. You could get a resin that takes longer to cure and maybe get away with it. I made a similar thread a while back and the piece of advice that I got was to powder the mold, and that worked for my purposes, but your piece sounds...

Need Advice for Drilling Holes for Sink Tube Lightsaber

I'd recommend wrapping masking tape around it too, both for when you use the punch to dent the metal as well as when you drill. It'll protect it a bit if you slip, it's what I do.

The Rise of Johann Han'rre (Mando WIP)

Good first attempt, however, I think if you started over, you could save yourself a lot of work. It all looked really good up until the fiberglass stage. From what I can tell in the photo, you started laying fiberglass matting on the -outside- of the helmet. You don't really want to do that...

    Mold help?

If you go the route of starting over, it's not a complete loss. I've chopped up old/failed molds and used them to bulk up new molds that I've poured. As long as it's the same material, you should have no problems. I've never noticed oomoo having any trouble sticking to itself, even with molds...

    Make a Mold for Helmet?

Molding a 3-D Object using Rebound® 25 Brush-On Silicone Rubber This seems to be the most popular method these days. Only instead of just filling the mold up with resin, you pour in a little bit and swish it around until it coats the whole surface evenly. Either that or you can lay fiberglass...

Star Trek TNG Playmates Phaser - Worth Upgrading?

As far as the toys go, it's -pretty- decent compared to all the other phaser toys. Hardcore Trek fans probably wouldn't be happy with it, but it's not a bad project. Taking off the belt clip and sanding down that area really makes a difference. Here's my conversion...

My Custom Lightsabers on the cheap…

Holy crap. These actually look very nice. A lot of people make really ugly hardware sabers, sticking random bits and pieces together, but you seem to have found a lot of parts that look like they really -belong- together on a saber. Very nice. Welcome to the forum.

    Alternative to silicone

My attempts at cutting corners on costs have usually ended up costing me the same as, or more than, the good supplies would cost. Bite the bullet and buy the good stuff, you won't regret it.

Hook Pan Battle Sword Toy (Info Needed)

Very sought after in the Hook collector community. Not a great "Prop" but a very popular piece from that toy series. Stick it on ebay, I have no doubt it will sell.

Best PVC Sterling build-up plans out there?

Maelstrom's hit the nail on the head. Great tutorials there. However, I've always had trouble finding the right thin walled PVC. Asking Lowes/Home Depot employees for the thin walled stuff usually results in a blank stare. Any tips there?
