I finally received the latest sample of the pattern I’ve been developing for Slughorn’s tweed suit. On the left is the first iteration on right is the new one (and final I think). To give it the right weight and drape I am going to use a fusible woven interfacing on the back which I have already...
I have created a more accurate Glencheck pattern for Slughorn's suit and I am finally happy with it. I can't afford to have it woven of course - way too expensive - but I figure I can get it printed onto a heavy linen or cotton with Spoonflower. This is what the pattern would look like when...
Awesome! I assume you are talking about the moire fabric.
I figure that I would need about two metres for the front and and two metres for the back (depending on how wide the fabric is) and given the length of the sleeves and the fact that they are cartridge pleated at the shoulder I would...
I've been trying to work out what the fabric was called that Slughorn's academic robe is made of and it turns out that it is most likely a furnishing fabric known as Moire Silk or Watered Silk or something similar. Watered Silk is made by crushing silk, however, a close up of Slughorn's robe...
As I get older I am starting to think about the costumes that have been worn by older actors in some of our favourite movies. One that not a lot of people seem to have cosplayed is Professor Horace Slughorn from the Harry Potter movies. I know that Harry Potter is an old series now, but I, and...
A very belated update. I can't remember how I scaled the template for the face shell. However, I am thinking of remaking the mask and I have some new ideas about how to improve it. I will post when I am done.
Hi there. Long time since I contributed but I recently found some material in a shop and I thought I had seen it somewhere before. I checked this thread and realised that it was the same thing as the fabric used in on Snape's cloak. So I bought the fabric and have started making a few test...
This is basically the pattern I used for my Snape frock coat. You are right about the pockets. I don't have any on my Snape costume (just sewed on the flaps). The sleeve vents are very deep but that shouldn't be too much of a problem as they are just deeper versions of what you would have...
Update 1 October, 2019
The Bellatrix "Deathly Hallows" sleeves attached to the dress look fairly close to the film used ones. Perhaps they could be longer by a few centimetres but they have close to the same number of stitched elements to them.
Update 30 September 2019
This isn't really about my my Sirius costume but it is related. My daughter does Bellatrix Lestrange and for some years we have been interested in making the Bellatrix costume from the Deathly Hallows. We started researching it but got stumped on how to make the...
Update 13 September 2019.
Now for the frock coat.
First things first - Diane Deziel! This cutter, pattern maker and her "Toolfully" Youtube channel was an excellent resource for this project. Her videos are to the point and easy to follow. I often hear people say that they can't sew. Sewing...
Update 12 September 2019.
This is going to cover some the work I have done over the last week or so.
First, the waistcoat.
To do the front panels I used the screen that I had made (see above) to screen print devoré (fibre etch) paste onto the back of white silk/rayon velvet. Once the paste...
Update 10 September 2019
Shirt and waistcoat together with antique double Albert fob trombone link chain that I modified to look as close to the original as possible. It is a shame to modify a 99 year old silver chain but I think it will be worth it to get the look as exact as possible.
Update 9 September, 2019
I've done a load of work but haven't had time to upload it. However, here is my (almost finished) waistcoat. It needs to have some flowers embroidered (painted) onto it, just like the original.
I used a screen printed devoré technique to make the gaps in the velvet. I...
