New Ghostbusters Proton Pack Build! Finished!

I was a bit younger when I built my first proton pack, I had quite a bit of help from my Grandfather. He basically did everything, I just attached stuff together. The ole thing is just about ten years old. It has seen many comic cons and has served me well. It's currently being used by members of the Hollywood Ghostbusters (we're on facebook!)

It wasn't a bad pack. But, I think it's time for an upgrade. I'm using the not so favored studio creations abs shell, parts from Hole in the Ground, and some parts I managed to snag on EBay.

The motherboard is a little big unfortunately, or the shell is a little too small? Whatever the case, I tried my best to center the thing.

I've been epoxy'ing threaded rod into some of these resin pieces to bolt them onto the shell

With some files and the dremel I managed to get the power cell window cut. I actually have some colored lenses for the power cell and cyclotron. (Ignore the gap under the booster tube)

Thats what four days of work has yielded so far. I'm also scratch building a pack for a friend of mine (more on that later maybe).

Re: New Proton Pack Build!

I redid the mounting for the booster tube. I deicided to epoxy it to the shell and run some rivets into it.

Then since I got in my shock mount, I was able to get the bumper bolted on.

I need to pick up some allen head screws for the Ion Arm cap and figure out how I'm going to mount the injectors. I'm also waiting on some resin filler and injector rods (or whatever thery're called).

Re: New Proton Pack Build!

So, these injectors were kinda a pain, but I got them mounted. I epoxied threaded rod into them and made a little backer out of mdf to make the bottom of the power cell more rigid.

Also, I got some paint on the bumper.

Re: New Proton Pack Build!

Looking good man. I was at a Con yesterday and one of the Ghostbusters there had an e-cigarette installed into the exhaust of the of the pack so when it overheated it let out "exhaust smoke" I thought that was a great I concept/idea he had.

Thanks man! Yeah, that would be awesome but, I'll be lucky as it is to even get lights in this!

I haven't accomplished too much in the past two days. Just been dry fitting some parts and getting the painting done.

Re: New Proton Pack Build!

So, I got the resisters mounted on to the Ion Arm and got some more painting done. Also, I got in the beam line and filler tubes, but haven't figured how I'm going to mount those. I actually just bought some knockoffs of those makita stick batteries from eBay to make the battery pack from GB2.

Re: New Proton Pack Build!

Some more progress made, slowly but surely!

I had to cut into the plastic, which is something I was trying to avoid. But, one of the pinched areas wasn't letting the piece sit flat. I also had to sand the edges of the resin piece to fit the contours of the shell. It was a little touch and go for awhile, but the damned thing finally fits.

Got the resisters painted, I went with a Charcoal color for them.

I'm not really sure if there is a weld line here, but I wanted to do one anyway with the epoxy putty and it covered the little gaps on the side.

It's getting there! Still a lot of work left.

Re: New Proton Pack Build!

So glad I got these the rod thingies mounted. I patched the hole I had to make and got more threaded rod epoxied into the resin pieces. I also got some more painting done.

Re: New Proton Pack Build!

I got the cosmetic plates made for the spacer, just some plexiglass glued onto it. I also got in my "Makita" batteries.

Re: New Proton Pack Build!

So, I got the holes cut into the cyclotron. Even managed to do it without cracking the shell.

I also finished making the mounting hardware for the batteries.

Re: New Proton Pack Build!

Lots of work. I built two this past halloween.

Why did you go pre built as apposed to all from scratch? You seem to be making a scratch pack anyway.

It'll be lighter, more accurate, and easier to install lights in. The scratch built is for a friend, and I honestly don't want to build another one anytime soon. lol

Re: New Proton Pack Build!

This is the result of a few days of work, I was also waiting on a new Ion Arm and it finally arrived on Monday.

I got the hose rigged up on on the spacer and the crank generator

I finished up the last few things on the shell so I could start painting it.

The goal is to get this thing done sometime next week. In time for Wonder Con!
