***COMPLETED**** Pcoz's Hasbro Hero Star Wars X-Wing Conversion

Re: Pcoz's Hasbro Hero Star Wars X-Wing Conversion

Ok, back from the dead here.....

started working on the x-wing again. I decided I couldn't live with the detail in the model and decided to rebuild as much as I can from scratch.

IMG_8713.JPG

found some pvc at the hardware store

IMG_8714.JPG

going to rebuild the thrust engines with pvc and add greeblies on top later

Nice work! I like these Hasbro conversions, they're pretty cool!

Re: Pcoz's Hasbro Hero Star Wars X-Wing Conversion

hello all....

back for a bit of progress...

So, I've made quite a few changes since I posted before....and actually quite a few changes from the posts below/ I decided to show you all the failures as I try to improve this MOD.

When I was in this stage, I was still using balsa.

IMG_8743.JPG

Removed the half round

IMG_8746.JPG

and recessed it to accept the flat balsa..

IMG_8749.JPG

removed the tops and sides with an X-Acto and a Dremel

IMG_8752.JPG

IMG_8756.JPG

wasn't a big fan of the wings, so I decided to remove them

IMG_8757.JPG

I just used them as templates to rebuild some new...

IMG_8761.JPG

IMG_8763.JPG

kind if making due with the materials I had at hand at the time...

IMG_8767.JPG

IMG_8769.JPG

Prepared the underside of each engine compartment to accept the wings....ugh

IMG_8770.JPG

IMG_8771.JPG

IMG_8774.JPG

didn't like the lack of detail here, so cut it out and rebuilt from scratch

IMG_8775.JPG

trimming off some of the details that I hope to improve later

IMG_8776.JPG

fitting the bottom side of the wing

IMG_8779.JPG

then the top

IMG_8781.JPG

IMG_8782.JPG

IMG_8791.JPG

IMG_8792.JPG

a few blocks to support each side of the wing

IMG_8793.JPG

IMG_8794.JPG

IMG_8795.JPG

here is my first attempt at the trim on top of the wing....(later to be improved)

IMG_8796.JPG

obviously, I'd like to shoot for something close to this <-----

Thanks for looking, a lot more to come soon !

Re: Pcoz's Hasbro Hero Star Wars X-Wing Conversion

con't...

working on the back a little.

here is what it looks like out of the box:

IMG_9024.JPG

so of course we need to cut that out, lol

IMG_9043.JPG

IMG_9044.JPG

so I tried to emulate the actual studio model reference pic's...there seems to be quite a variance between reference photos and models that I've found online.....

IMG_9045.JPG

these are the guides on from concrete nails wrapped in paper

IMG_9048.JPG

and of course balsa...

IMG_9049.JPG

and some random greeblies from my son's transformers toys

IMG_9051.JPG

IMG_9055.JPG

ok, done for tonight but a ton more updates to come...

thanks for looking.

as always, any advice is welcome!

Re: Pcoz's Hasbro Hero Star Wars X-Wing Conversion

Yeah, here are a couple of the reference pic's I've been using that have something to compare and judge size with. Hard to say actual size, but it is pretty HUGE ! 4 ft may be close for sure.....

See the guy in the background here...

Mans reflection

More people behind for reference.

Someone should scratch build that size x-wing or bigger using the side show figure.....

maybe IzzyMel could complete the entire bird from his 1/6th Scale X-Wing Cockpit Only build which was pretty awesome in shear size and detail.

Re: Pcoz's Hasbro Hero Star Wars X-Wing Conversion

That is the 4' one, the "big X-Wing" but I don't think it was actually used for filming but rather built for promotional uses, the actual filming miniatures where I believe something like 12" for the pyro units and 20" for the filming minatures. But I am sure someone else knows exactly the size.

Here is the 1stop ref link from the studio scale section.

Re: Pcoz's Hasbro Hero Star Wars X-Wing Conversion

Ok, cool... I was not aware of that. And I also somehow missed that link you gave me while doing my research, so thank you very much.

Re: Pcoz's Hasbro Hero Star Wars X-Wing Conversion

quick little scratch build for the hatch

IMG_9057.JPG

Paper clay rough molded and air dried overnight

IMG_9059.JPG

matched up to a flat washer for a guide and sanded with dremel

IMG_9060.JPG

rounded off the corners

IMG_9062.JPG

drawn out and used some cardboard and metal wire

IMG_9063.JPG

IMG_9066.JPG

think these are from the craft store to make candles or something, not quite sure, but I used them on my Mech Warrior build

IMG_9067.JPG

trimmed the edge

IMG_9068.JPG

IMG_9069.JPG

used balsa and wooden dowels

IMG_9072.JPG

IMG_9076.JPG

IMG_9077.JPG

IMG_9079.JPG

IMG_9081.JPG

balsa wood

IMG_9082.JPG

used some wood filler to smooth out a little

IMG_9085.JPG

This was built before my Plastruct order came in so I may rebuild this.....or maybe replace some of the details. I guess I'll prime it and see how it looks.

IMG_9087.JPG

Anyway, so I have seen in various pictures and models where this points both up and down....Can anyone tell me which is correct ?

Thanks,

Pcoz

Re: Pcoz's Hasbro Hero Star Wars X-Wing Conversion

This is from a unit that sold at auction, it may have been a pyro version but I'm not sure

Re: Pcoz's Hasbro Hero Star Wars X-Wing Conversion

It's Red 3 and not a Pyro. Of course I have no idea which way is right. Sorry [emoji1]

Re: Pcoz's Hasbro Hero Star Wars X-Wing Conversion

Definitely NOT a pryo as pyro's had solid wings. This photo was taken at LFL archives as a reference for a future X-Wing release by MR (which never happened) so this one would not have gone to auction.

Sorry took this out of some notes I had, apparently I had this photo in the wrong place. My apologies for any mis-information.

Re: Pcoz's Hasbro Hero Star Wars X-Wing Conversion

Because they were just a cap to hide the rear mounting point I don't think it matters. I don't believe they were locked into place so no position is correct unless you're modelling a specific film authentic version in which case you would put it in the same position as the ship you are modelling..

However, personally I like it in the "up" position.

Thanks, I too like it in the "up" position and I believe that's the way I will go. Man, I thought this would be a quick fix build and paint job.....WRONG ! There is actually a lot going on with these x-wings. This has been fun and a definite learning experience. I'm much farther along now and will post more soon.

SHHHH Dont mention anything to Izzy. We're working him on the full scale Falcon project. No distractions! ;)
