S'been that way since the first G1 lines - With the odd extra bit or changed head...
Grapple/Inferno
Rumble/Frenzy
Trailbreaker/Hoist

The Seeker jets, and there were loads more - Hell, one of the mini-car series' was almost all repaints:

  • Hubcap = Cliffjumper
  • Outback = Brawn
  • Pipes = Huffer
  • Swerve = Gears
  • Tailgate =Windcharger
 
I came across this on Facebook thanks to one of the TRON related groups. This is a picture of the unproduced figures from the TRON: Legacy line from Spinmasters. The only one that did get release was Zuse, and that was in small numbers (making it a rare figure).
