This is the inner part that angles in on each end right?
Looks great!!!!! I could see that being a pain to form with
some webbing coming off the sides if you heat the plastic
too much. Either way thats a lot of encapsulation wax it up
good to help get the buck out. Excellent part good to see you
get at it!!:thumbsup

You're apoxie sculpt didn't softened you're mix ratio
was off with part A&B wax will have no effect on that stuff
when it's mixed properly and set up. If the buck never set up
then......hmmm thats unfortunate you will have to make another.
You don't have to be perfect with the mix ratio but a lopsided ratio will
cause problems!

Take part A then put the top back on then take
from part B and put the top back on. Sounds stupid
righ? But guess what I have taken from part A then
"Thinking" I took from part B I mixed it not really paying
attention!!!! Also always make snakes with the apoxie
sculpt lay one on top of the other then twist them,
into a braid then roll them. Keep twisting and rolling
it until it's one perfect uniformed color

If I knew you were going to try to make your
buck this way I would have advised you to
make it in half. Halves always give you a lower
profile to form and a easier exit when removing

Let's say you could form this part with no
webbing but removing it was impossible! There
is a solution to getting it out. Add a riser underneath,
after it's formed remove the riser and mark where
you're going to trim the flash away with a pencil. That
extra bit of plastic made by the riser helps you remove
your buck. Especially with heavy parts like lets say
the escape pod shapes you can get you're hands
underneath and bounce it until it begins to move down.
If you trim the flash and then try to remove it's almost
impossible for some parts, there is nothing to grab it
gets to be a real problem.

You can form this part as it is but it's probably
best as a female mold where the plastic is drawn
into it. I would still say add a riser under your new
buck you make. Make it as a half this time, you will get a cleaner
parting line to cut, as you will pulling past the original
buck's termination point. Good luck your learning a lot!

Oh one last thing when you're doing the twisting and
rolling and the color starts to get uniformed, dip it in
some hot water and twist and roll a few more times,
that really helps soften it up and blend together.

Cheers Mike, re the Apoxie Sculpt it had def set hard already, I'd sanded it a few times and got a great solid hard Finnish on it, so something had def effected it afterwards also, it may have been a bit off but def changed viscosity after the fourth pull i did, I noticed each pull get more scruffy from the surface detail each time but it had def took a good sanding prior to being used, I've made quite a few bucks with it and its a first for me

I'm gunna have a crack at re making a half buck tonight....lessons learned are a god thing though as I'm less likely to waste time and energy like that again now I know its a none starter

Wow thats crazy never had the wax effect the apoxie clay,
especially if you consider your buffing most of it off, and just
leaving a smooth surface. I have had it where I mixed it wrong,
and when sanding it down ran into areas below the hardened
surface, that were soft because it was not mixed properly in
those areas below. The regular apoxie sculpt is good
up to 350deg my entire front skirt is made of that I formed that
more than a few times with no problem......hmmmm crazy let's
see what happens when you make the next one? I put like 4 coats
of wax on that front skirt....just for fun it was so shiny!! LMAO

Yeh it was odd, and it only effected one section really bad and another just lightly. If I wasn't totally battered from having no sleep for a few days I'd jump on it, I just had my car trashed at a Safari Park by Baboons so need to go and see how much more damage I have on that as well!!!!

Oh snap sounds like you're gonna need more Apoxie Sculpt.....that sucks!!!!!!

Guy, don't make a new buck. All you need is some Klean Clay, or similar. Make a riser of clay, then place your buck on the clay laying on its side. Then build a narrow perimeter of clay around the riser and buck, even and level with the depth you want from your pulls. With a little patience you can form the clay to slope slightly outward - this way you can add a little more height to your buck to aid with trimming the pulls. Should save you some trouble and time. This is how I pulled my AT-ST head halves. The buck itself is the same size/shape as a finished head. This pic may help illustrate what I'm probably explaining pretty poorly...

Good practice to have a base on all pulls to aid in removal and hopefully move any webbing to the base.
