Star Trek Beyond

Simon Pegg wasn't a fan of the trailer either... but he swears there's MUCH more to the film than what they've shown. One bad trailer isn't going to make me not want to see this. Always try to go in with an open mind I always say.

Simon's reaction to the trailer actually reassures me a bit. He looks downright pained at times talking about it so I'm happy to give him the benefit of the doubt.

Yeah, I have to agree: Pegg's sentiment that there is much more to the movie than what first meets the eye with this Advertising Dept. promo is very reassuring. I'll still won't make any real judgement on it until I see it, but seeing that little interview with him made me stop holding my breath! Phew! Nice to hear.

His reaction, having a hand in the writing process and being a star trek fan as a whole reassures me that the trailer is not a good representation of what the film will be. Like he said, marketing people beating the drum to gain an audience.

I'm confused as to why the trailer met with such extreme negative feedback. It's the first Trek film with a new concept beyond what was three in a row of the same bad guy revenge premise.

But it's Star Trek III again so they'll find a way to crash the ship and trade places with the baddies stealing theirs.

At least it's not on earth and they are finally 'exploring' space. "New civilizations..."

So, what is people's obsession with destroying the #Q@$% enterprise? Orignal's did it, TNG did it, new trek is doing it...

Because unlike the original series, Nutrek has been nothing but post 9/11 disaster porn.

One thing I've learned over the years is that a teaser is just that: Something to snag your attention. Given the sheer amounts of vitriol over the trailer in this thread and elsewhere on the internet and the fact that there's no such thing as bad publicity, I'd say the trailer has accomplished EXACTLY what it set out to do. It's got a lot of people talking about it and generating buzz.

The Enterprise is just a ship....the sailors are the story. Blow the ship to Hell and make more but spare the crew...

Why is it that in every ST series and movies that the current captain of the flagship is smarter than all the idiots at Starbucks errr I mean Starfleet???

I don't know. That could still be Earth that we've seen in the teaser and pictures. What are the heads going to think? "Do we attack some random Federation city that's far away in space, or do we attack Earth which is a place that can give audiences some semblance of relatability?" And since making Star Trek more general audience relatable, Earth is easy, cheap and everyone will defend it for making any story one that has really high stakes.

If only life were that simple, but I'm sorry to inform you that people tend to get attached to non-living things all the time. Cars, Motorcycles, Computers, Toys, boats. Cripes, even things that aren't even tangible like movies, TV Shows, music and video games. Also, it's not very good story telling if all you're thinking about is ways of not having the characters 'care' about things.

That was the thing with Kirk. It WASNT just a ship!

"My god bones..... What have I done?"
"What you had to do. What you always do. Turn death into a fighting chance to live"

THATS Kirk!

I love many things tactile including fast cars.

Obviously I love sci fi too. Decades.

You never addressed the main point....it's about a group of people so much more than a ship...but...

Why are all the admirals in Starfleet ******* and corrupt????

Meow.

"These are the voyages of the Starship Enterprise."
That was what the show was about. Not these are the missions of Captain Kirk.

Compare perhaps to space shuttles Challenger and Columbia.
We name schools after them, how often does a school get named after a ship?
They embody the yearnings and dedication of the thousands that built them.

This is where Abrams blew it, he had no idea what the purpose of tthe Enterprise was.
