Re: Bond 24

From the article, it doesn't sound as bad as all that. Like, we won't be getting quips galore. Just a bit of repartee between Bond and the new M, and Bond and Moneypenny.

It's important to remember that the last three films had Bond in a very different relationship with a different M. In the first film, he's a cocky, rookie agent. In the second, he's still a rookie, basically (since it follows immediately after Casino Royale). In the third, he's a seasoned agent who's gone through several missions with M, and who's dealing with resentment at having been treated like an "asset." Now we have a new M that Bond actually fought beside, and it's a whole different dynamic. You don't want to write it like the last interactions with M, and you don't want to write it like the old-days where Bond was just nonchalant and M was a crotchety old man. Ralph Fiennes isn't that M.

Similar deal with Moneypenny. She hasn't appeared in the last 3 Bond films, and prior to that she was just part of the usual over-the-top unsubtle gagfest. With Naomi Harris, we have a new Moneypenny who, again, has been in the field with Bond and had a flirtation with him, and who also carries around a bit of guilt at having, you know, SHOT HIM IN THE CHEST AND BLOWN HIM OFF A BRIDGE. Again, very different dynamic from any of the other Moneypennies we've had in the past.

I really don't see why that guilt should amount to anything since she was being pushed to fire on M's orders and after the incident chose to remain with Mi6. She may have shot Bond, but so what? He's still alive, kicking and I'm sorry to say this over and over again, she didn't quit Mi6 when things turned to crap. And it's not like he was such a valuable asset either since the only thing he manages to accomplish is kill the bad guy AFTER he succeeds*in everything he set out to do. I think Bond is overdue for having some semblance of guilt in his conscious.

Although I agree that her guilt is unwarranted, guilt is an emotional state and emotion rarely follows a logic. She has guilt because of who she is, not because she should.

Bond's Lack of a guilty conscience is because of who he is, not because he shouldn't feel guilty. It would be extremely difficult to function as a cold, calculating agent if you are bothered by guilt. ;)

Re: Bond 24

They describe these things as "replacements" when it's really more along the lines of "That dude wasn't available, so we got this other dude who's also pretty badass." Deakins is shooting a film with the Coen brothers and wouldn't be available to do Bond 24. Saying he was "replaced" makes it sound like (A) production is underway, and (B) he was replaced mid-production with someone else, when neither is true.

Nice, he would do a great job. still wondering if they will let Rachel Weisz play a villain as well or at least a Bond / booty call girl.

Re: Bond 24

So I guess the announcement on Dec 4 ( Thu) is the title reveal or maybe even a teaser video with the logo. Shooting starts on Dec 6 (Sat).

Releasing on October 23, 2015.
