A friend of mine who was willing so badly to cosplay as Dredd asked me the helmet months ago. So, after making the helmet, I had him wondering about the other parts. After long searching, I decided to help him on the armor too.
As usual I started from some paper template looking at video clips and pictures of the costume.
The eagle was the first thing I worked on:
Using sintra, I started to make the basic shape and structure of the eagle
Then started to fill the holes with filler
and in the meantime, I made the master feather with sintra and then molded to make 47
After priming the eagle, I started working on the pauldrons, the bars, the back plate and the front lock. Sorry, was such in a hurry that I didn't remember to make pics of every step
First setup tries:
Everything was made out of sintra, except the depth of the pauldron. I used some eva foam to make it a quick good thick pauldron. I then filled the sides of the pauldron to fill the holes and make it smooth:
The final look of the bars pauldron:
I then started to work on the arm guard. I hope our laser cutter would work, but it didn't so I had to work on weekends too to make these
Here are the steps:
This was to test the straps
Went on to prime the eagle and pauldrons:
Then on to molding:
Pauldron without the eagle:
Eagle mold:
Back "armadillo" parts, armpits strings and all the attachments were made.
The end result is at the bottom of the post.
As for the pictures of the almost finished pieces, I'd have to forward you to the Junkyard thread as I don't have them on this computer to upload:
