1:1 Millennium Falcon Cockpit Replica - Group Build

hey my name is Micheal, am 3D modeler here in Huntsville and have a background with Solid Edge Modeling for about 5 years and I am currently working on an engineering degree at UAH while working as a lab assistant at Mindgear Labs where I run around the place helping out with the various equipment. I am excited to be a part of the project and hope I can bring some new equipment skills with the cnc and laser cutter to the project to build various greeblies and bounce ideas around. Along with being a big Star Wars fan I am also a big Trekie as you can see by my side build http://www.therpf.com/f9/scratch-tos-phaser-build-206392/ .

Hi Gang,

Just want to officially welcome Mike to the FSF Project. I met him at MGL and he took an immediate interest in the project. He is an absolute asset and brings with him an incredible amount of talent - and he's a great guy. I am very excited that he's taken such an interest in the project. For those who don't know, he created, using the CNC, the second and more accurate matte box. He is also working of several other parts to include 3D printing the yoke handles and other goodies! He will be posting progress images in-between his own projects - be sure to click the link above.

As always, stay tuned!

Hi, I'm Scot, and Greg referred me to theRPF also from FSF. We've been discussing taking his quad gun from earlier in the thread and actuating it. I finally got some pneumatics together for some reciprocating barrels. I work in Seattle as a stage carpenter in theatre, and get to play with all sorts of fun toys (ahem, tools, sorry) and automated scenery.

Hi, Scot again. After re-reading my post, I guess I should have said- Working on building an automated quad gun BASED on Greg's gun. That thing is a piece of art and I would not want to scratch it. (I give my word- not a scratch)

I did pick up some parts yesterday and played a bit with the pistons I got for the project. Tried them out with one feeding the other first, and didn't like the result, so it is going to have to be four valves instead of paired up

G I really didn't get a sense of how big the gun is, even with the measurements in hand, until I picked up the pvc... Wow

Hi Gang,

Another official welcome is in order. Scot and I have been chatting for quite some time on the FSF site and offline. As the project continues to grow so does his enthusiasm. I really need to find a way to get all these guys under one roof... As you know, Scot has been tinkering with making the quad barrels reciprocate. He'll be making another full scale quad based on the first version to include a more sturdy frame and support arms. If all goes well, we'll transfer his ideas and mod our quad to match! Lot's of good stuff coming! :)

Welcome, Scot! Now get back to work!

Yeah... The body is very compact. It wasn't until I added the barrels that I realized the size.

Hi Gang,

It's been snowing with freezing rain so I've been stuck at home for the last few days. But I did a find a new arrival at the door the other day...

Not sure where I'm going to add them but they look cool :)

For size comparo

I painted the radar surround. I think I'm going to laser cut using the 1/8" instead of the 1/4".

Just seems a bit too thick

Sigh... She deserves better than to be stacked against a wall...

Hi Gang,

Check out the vid Scot took in prep for the quad barrels reciprocating. He says "...This is one piston on the valve. Reasonably pleased with the cycle rate. Wish it was a little more solid at either end. Will mess with the pressure, but I am a bit restricted by hose diameter... Won't get to play with it much more until next week..."

Imagine a quad barrel and tip! ;)

Hi Gang,

The weather has kept me inside for the last few days. I was finally able to get out and purchase some of the plasti-dip. I could only find yellow so I had to settle for the spray version. I have to layer up for the handle padding to look right. I also painted the center circle of the outer lever white...

Getting a coat of plasti-dip

Gonna need a lot of layers.

It's supposed to be beautiful this weekend so I hope to get a lot done!

Stay Tuned!

The spray stuff works surprisingly well, it'll level itself out to a degree, and probably take less coats than you'd think. Great work.

Hi L,

Thanks. The MDF I used for the padding is very pourus. I've already sprayed 6 layers and it appears to finally be building up. I think I will get the yellow dip and then just spray a few coats of the black for the remaining few levers throughout the cockpit.

Good news all around and looking forward to see what you'll do with the Yokes:)

Hey Jo,

I wasn't able to get to the lab last night but Mike is working with Starkillers 3D model and getting the yoke handles ready to 3D print. He forwarded a few images and they look fantastic. We're still trying to figure out exactly how to mount the handles to the mod'd yokes I have. If all goes well and along with a few surprises, I'm hoping the yokes will look very similar to the Vicker's Viscount yoke. Fingers crossed!

Hi Gang,

Spent the evening at MGL... :)

Here is the practice yoke handle Mike printed

I then laser cut the acrylic and MDF for a smaller 1 handle lever

That's a spicy meatball! Awesome work SF!

LOL! Thank you, Sir! :)

Are you going to chrome the yokes? Great job!

Hi F,

It would be cool to chrome them... Not sure if that's in the budget right now. I've seen several specialized chrome paint options but again... for the few pieces that would need actual chroming I'm not sure it's worth the money. Any ideas?

Hi Gang,

I desperately need your help. There is a greeblie I am trying to identify. I'd like to find the original piece and not have to 3D print it. The part in question was one of two AT-AT Cockpit Control Levers, the same part is also used on the center console armrest on the MF and finally this particular "handle" was used on Bespin. I'm trying to identify the handle - not the knob or the base. It reminds me of a dental tool... Can anybody identify this part?

Ideas?
