BSG FTL Jump Key ?

It was my assumption that msleeper was just going to make the 3D print just for the rods alone. could be mistaken. and I usually am...:lol

Nope, I was going to model the whole key. I was going to print the body and then get the acrylic rods, you really can't 3D print anything clear and it would require more work than it is worth to clean up something to be smooth and precise enough like a rod. I could machine them and then mold that and cast it out of clear resin, but again that's more work and more costly than just buying acrylic rod and cutting it to length.

I know it is a lot to ask, but could you look into possibly doing the key sections of the Nuclear Release key? Maybe just as an option? Thanks in advance.

The rods have fiber optics in them as well (or something that channels light through them). That would probably be impossible to manufacture in a hobbyist environment. :)

Rik1138,

I found an older thread started by epilepticsquirl, http://www.therpf.com/showthread.php?t=102410
In it you mentioned a picture you sent him but it is not on the thread, would it be possible for you to repost it? I have tried a few times to contact epilepticsquirl but he has not answered. I know from the post he had already done one 3D model and hoped he would chime in on this thread. Thank you in advance.

Not sure which one it was, but it would have to be one of these 3: :)

1 vote here for an all-metal build. The reference photos look like a full polish for the entire key, so that's what I'd vote for as well.

I would vote in this direction also.

Doesn't mean msleeper couldn't do the 3D print deal also tho. may have to go that rout pending life situations...

If anyone is interested, I do still have my original 3d model I used in my original run. It was shown to be fairly accurate and would be easy to print. And i have the rods.

Well I for one would be very interested except I have no means to print one myself. Any suggestions?

Sorry, I meant to say I could offer the prints themselves along with the rods and possible electronics.

And btw, not trying to take away at all from the possibility of a full metal run. It's the difference between a Kia and a Mercedes AMG.:thumbsup

Okay, that got my interest. As much I would love a full metal one, the funds just aren't there. What are you thinking of asking?

Looking forward to this run...
