In the past i noticed some threads containing a lot of information about kitparts dimensions and what not,..all great you would think.
But the fact that in these threads it is all presented as true and end of all is wrong in my opinion.
Most of these threads were proven to miss a lot of information,.sometimes the dimensions were off ,sometimes there were kit parts missing etc.
A lot of members take this info without questioning anything because they are not aware of the inaccuracies or are not even planning to built the model then now or ever.
Some may gain the info for future builts but are not building anything at all at the moment.
So the thread stays authorative while it's not.
We did not move foreward in any way!
How helpfull are these threads really?
How do we get people to built these models so we all can learn and enjoy?
How many build threads are going on right now here at ss modeling?
I think there is something slightly wrong with the attitude of the posters of these kind of threads in the past(they were not aware of this i assume).
The info in these threads is being presented as if the poster knows it all so no questions are being asked,..the thread is created not to really share or help or show the way.
I feel it is created with a purpose of presentation of true fact/knowledge,..being authorative.
These kind of threads can be really helpfull don't get me wrong ,they seem really generous but they realy do not contribute to a we/community attitude.
So as strange as it may seem to some members who seek answers,in a way these kind of threads are the poison for this forum.
Look at it this way,..sometimes the poster is not even aware of the incompleteness of the info being"shared".
If no one else is building/researching the models how the hell do we know all this info is fact?
It seems the more info is out there the less ss models are being built and in the worst case the ss forum dries out.
This is a expensive hobby in both time/effort and money so we all look for short cuts.
Are there really any short cuts?
In the end you have to invest money in all these kits to obtain the parts you need and in the end you have to do the math. yourselve and solve the problems.
For me the searching for parts and kits is the most fun part of ss modeling.
Don't want to get burned by buying the wrong expensive kit(s)?
Don't have the money to buy these kits?,..maybe this is not the right hobby for you!?
I've seen people build anything from scratch(no kit parts being used or scarcely) so this shouldn't be an excuse but you have to have the talent for that.
Start buying the ones you are sure of,then show your investment to the "experts"and they will help you out by pointing you in the right direction of the kits you need.
Not all "experts"will help you out though,..some members are still angry and hurt that they spend so much cash on unussable kits(nobody forced them to buy them)that now they do not want you to go and find the right ones without the same pain they went through.
I praise them as pioneers and they have all the right to feel the way they feel but they have to stop bullying people.
Contribute in a possitive way or go **** off.
Nothing possitive to say don't say anything,..Please!
The great thing that i've also noticed in the past and even now is that even the most secretively(not sharing) members will help other members out,..anyone ,really anyone!(except the bully described above) ,who sees that you are truly investing here like they did/do will help you out.
Now what about helping eachother out?
I think we should try to gain a more "anyone can contribute" attitude,..yeah even the most "inexperienced" builders can contribute.
Do we want "problems" being solved or don't we?We all want to have the best info availlable yielding in the best results.
So anyone willing to help out in whatever way should be welcome, and is equally valuable.
But in order to be accessable to any outside help, we have to realise we need it.
Always doubt yourself when you think you know it all or have all the facts straight.
Always try to create room for outside help to improve,..it's fun to receive it and it is fun to give others a chance to give it.
There will be more builds, the builds get better and more accurate, the people building will enjoy even more, the people helping out will feel to be a part of it(the forum).
Did you know that there are people on this forum who do not build models at all and never will?
They just really love reading about it and enjoy seeing other people do the modeling.
It is like an art to them ,like visiting a museum a workshop.
How can they contribute without being called lurkers?
They do not bring anything to this forum it seems.
The fact that they give to those who do "contribute" an opportunity to make other people feel good by just reading about and/or looking at their work is a great contribution to this community.
Well,..good enough for ya?,...
Are they not welcome?
To me they are most welcome.
A lot of us started out this way,..some had/will have the "courage" to start building ss models themselves and we should try to encourage anyone to do so because it is a fun thing to do,. but not demand!
The only thing we have to do, i think, is is presenting stuff with an attitute in the realm of "this is what i have, i think this is right, what do you guys think? any suggestions any additional information is welcome"
This will make a lot of members feel part of the whole thing and feel that their presents is appreciated.
Anyone should be welcome to participate,..this is an open forum.
This all is just my opinion.
