Taken care of ages ago. I actually had them on my original metal build too... just never got around to attaching them.

You can see them here on the top right (not glued in yet):

Note: the photo above is kinda out of date... have made some changes since.

Re: VERA KIT, (Firefly & Showtime)

Just confirming that I'm still in for a kit.

You guys continue to rock it!

Ted.

Re: VERA KIT, (Firefly & Showtime)

The casting master is being assembled. Hopefully kits will be ready around October.

Re: VERA KIT, (Firefly & Showtime)

Joa, is that for the full kit or for the less parts ( more moulded together) kit?

The resin (simpler, less parts) kit is being assembled and readied for casting and will be available around October(ish). The mega-full-parts-breakdown kit can be had at any time but it does take up to 2-3 months to complete. They are made on-demand and not something I keep lying around! (Though honestly I'm considering to discontinue the latter due to the cost and amount of work/time they take.)

Re: VERA KIT, (Firefly & Showtime)

I must have missed it but what is the price point difference between the two kits? Definitely want one but I need to have a look at my budget.

The resin kit will be about $450. The multi-part one will depend on options- it isn't something I offer regularly but on special request. Sending you a PM since this thread is about the resin kit.

Re: VERA KIT, (Firefly & Showtime)

It's been quite regarding this but it's still happening. Shawn has been finishing up his McQuarry Blade Runner concept pistol but will get back to Vera soon.

Re: VERA KIT, (Firefly & Showtime)

Well, the builder clearly has skill at cutting MDF, which I don't always have the patience for (my lips and eyes get all dry from the paper dust) which is why I switched from MDF to 3d printing on my Oblivion Rifle. In regards to accuracy- some details are very hard to do in MDF. The material itself tends to look "clunky" when you try to do small details. (Just try doing mm accurate weaver rails in it, lol.) There's nothing in the build I saw that was sourced from my model, if that's what you were wondering- they are completely different. The rifle hanging next to it looks like good workmanship but I don't know what it's from.

If he's doing copies then obviously my opinion will be a tad biased so I don't want to comment on specific details. Folks that still need to decide before committing to a kit will have to look at the available reference and compare.

That said, after having tweaked and worked on my own master for the last 6-7+ years, I feel entitled enough to say that I've come closer to the original than anyone else by a pretty wide margin. (After having worked on it for so long it would be pretty bad otherwise!) I've worked on this replica for longer than anything else I can remember (barring my industrial rock band perhaps). Vera is to me what Darth Vader is for Gino or the Blade Runner PKD is to Racprops.

Oh, and I can't recall if I've mentioned it, but molding of a few parts HAS in fact begun on this kit.

Re: VERA KIT, (Firefly & Showtime)

How many of y'all are definitely planning on adding a metal receiver to this kit?

I'm asking because the reason it's taking so long to get the kit finished is our ambition to engineer and cast the different "chunks" in such a way that it makes swapping out the receiver, is proving difficult. (This is due to the necessity of casting parts of the barrel "hollow" to allow the receiver entry, making the molds complex and fiddly. If we cast the receiver into the kit, it would get done a lot faster, and probably come in cheaper as well.

Those that really want a metal receiver will still be able to do it by cutting out the resin one. (I'm guessing that it would be at least partially rotocast, which makes the cutting a lot easier.)
