Hello...
I am a very part time prop builder....this is my first real attempt at making something looking like it was in the movies...All of it is made in my bedroom, most of it is scratch built...with very basic tools, nothing too specialized at all....So, if I can build then so can you.
I'm still building this thing, but I thought it was time to let you all in on how it was going......the reason for this thread is that I didn't want to go out and just buy everything pre-made, though there is nothing wrong with that, I wanted to have a good crack at building most of it myself (apart from the jacket, helmet visor and the toy gun) but, however long it takes, maybe by the time they get around to making the sequel, we shall see, if you can, make it yourself......although there are times when I wish I wasn't building it all myself.

THE BADGE: JUST AS ICONIC AS THE HELMET.
We shall start with the Badge...can't be that hard, I thought.....ah, the first attempt was not to scale (at the time I didn't know this) and was made using an image from the internet, cardboard and then covered with Worbla...
...anyway, like I said, the Worbla biscuit badge as it is now named was not to scale. So I got myself a better image, scaled that to the movie proportions, then came up with the crazy idea of using self adhesive vinyl floor tiles to make up all the layers of the badge. It turned out pretty well, if a little time consuming...the vinyl tile sections really help to give the prop some added authentic weight.
..then time to whip out the heat gun and some Worbla...
...then it was time for a Cuppa...
...then back to work... so using wood filler to fill in the Worbla imperfections, several coats of build up primer, sanding, primer, sanding....you get the idea...
...a few coats of two types of gold and some more sanding, more gold and then some black for weathering and detailing and I ended up with this little beauty.
THE ELBOW PADS: STRICTLY SPEAKING, THESE ARE PART OF THE JACKET, BUT I'M NOT CHOPPING UP MY TRIUMPH BIKER JACKET.
Using a technique I demoed in this video http://youtu.be/RdMrI9jDgOI ,although I will be using A3 black craft foam for the main leather effect parts, EVA foam and Worbla I will be making something similar to this sketch I drew up....
THE BALLISTIC VEST:
To see if it was all going to fit and look the right size, I built a cardboard mock-up...
I was smiling on the inside, not to mention a little warm also. It looked like it all fitted, so, on with the actual prop parts. For the material parts of the vest I will be using an old coat that I will be cutting up and some kitchen material cleaning cloths which match the mesh fabric under the plates. The plates and shoulder pads will be produced from a mixture of EVA foam, craft foam and Worbla.
The breast plates I manually drew and sized, for the lower AB plates I used a Pep file, but again altered it as the shape was too square...
...and then these where transferred onto EVA foam, cut out, then covered with Worbla.
By layering up the thinner craft foam I built up the eagle pad...It wasn't until I covered it with Worbala that I realised I had made the lower pad too long...
