With the Duncan Jones Rogue Trooper production just around the corner (allegedly) I've recently been on a major hype train for the Rogue trooper world. Re-reading some of the old strips and really soaking up that vibe I so loved as a kid...
I wanted to have something in hand for display so I jumped in first doing a slight rework of the biochips - nothing special, just a bit more detail than the strips had or could allow due to the medium
The the next progression was pretty obvious to me - I don't have the modelling skills or the workspace to model and print a full size Gunnar - the rifle - so it had to be the much more manageable hand gun - Major Magnam.
I've seen other folks have a run at this before but wanted to have a slight redesign with some realism added - shell casing ejection port, (faux) functionality added to some design features - I've turned the "hammer" section into a fire selector switch, some of the shapes on the fore section are now vents/cooling fins rather than just squares, a mag release button and some other minor flourishes mostly to amuse myself.
Modelled up over a couple of days and then dissected ready to be a printable/buildable kit (in theory)
I'm fairly happy with the final design and have begun printing it with an eye on doing a complete overhaul later and making the design even more functional and a bit less mid 80's comic strip style.
First though, I wanted to build this version as an homage to those great artists like Brett Ewins who portrayed the 'character' first.
I'll post up the progress as it happens...but for now here's what's what.
Printed on an Elegoo Saturn using Anycubic Eco Resin.
