I've been working on an Ogre bust for someone for a while inbetween running my business teaching SFX to adults and kids. The person the bust was for gave me a rough sketch with an idea as to what they would like for the Ogre.
Currently it is still in the sculpting stage with the back of the head missing plastiline. It is still missing skin textures so is looking very extreme and smooth and the left hand side hasn't been worked on like the right with all the wrinkles and muscle deifintion.
Once completed I will be moulding the sculpture out of fibreglass as a multipiece mould, as a multi piece Herculite mould would be a complete pain and way too haevy to pour latex out of. The bust will be latex and foam....preferably a cold cure foam.....something along the lines of Bently's Chemicals Jfoam 162.
QUESTION: UK members, where is great and good value for acquiring large volumes, 5 litres and above, on soft prop making foam for busts and such?
Also apologies that the photos are the wrong orientation. Does anyone know how to adjust/fix this? There is no orientation button in the blog post menu.
So It's still very rough. The left ear needs tweaking to match the right. The client wanted a Rhino horn in the middle. I've added it one to get a sense of scale, but will be making it smaller. I also need to get it to match and feel that it fits the head better. The chest and neck/bust edges are still to be widened. Plus a load of skin textures and pores.
Eventually when made, it will have a beard and I think an ogre made earring with some subtle tribal/ogre suitable tattoos.
It has been and still is a big challenge with the muscle structure and anatomy especially with the snarling expression. When I have done sculpts in the past they have been for prosthetics that have not needed such expression. It has been a massive learning curve so far. And there is still a lot of tweaking to go!
