National Geographic lays off its last remaining staff writers

It’s not just Disney, but I get it… everyone is out to villainize them at every chance they can these days.
This is happening all over when it comes to print periodicals. With online digital formats becoming the norm, the print outfits are either folding, or they are opting to cut their salary staff and just go with contracted freelance writers.

Why villainize one of the largest media and entertainment conglomerates of all time that keeps growing exponentially and absorbing all of it's competition? For real? Disney is too big and too powerful so yes everything they do is scrutinized and examined.

Firing full-time employees and making them become contractors is bad regardless of who is doing it or the atmosphere in the industry.

No surprise here...the state of Media lately is really sad; but not necessarily because of acquisitions by big conglomerates, but also as what they've become: mouthpiece of their political masters. When one side says: "It's raining outside" and the other side says: "It's not raining outside"; as a journalist, it's your job to go outside and check the fact for yourself! That's what real news reporters are supposed to do...nowadays, it's "News by omission" They shot themselves in the foot AFAIK!

Also, the lack of print means the lack of a physical archive. It's much easier to change the past when it's only one master file in a single digital archive. It's also easier to lose it altogether, Blade Runner 2049 style.
