Man of Steel Suit material and finish?

Hi guys, I've been reading a number of different Man of Steel related threads and learning a lot. My aim is to start making a Superman suit in a few months for Halloween this year. I've read some great suggestions for materials and ways to create the cape, belt as well as the wrist and body accents but can anyone suggest the best material for the suit itself? And also a good way to get a decent chain-mail finish and shine?

Check out eldonnaty's build. Almost all superhero suits require spandex/lycra as the base material. The surface treatments and anything placed beneath the fabric are what varies.

Thanks Lunaman. Since I posted this plans with my friends have changed. One of my friends is now doing superman and I'll be Batman, and the other will be Zod. But I'll have a read through because it may be useful for his costume and seeing eldonnaty built the base layer will be useful for my costume.
