Ghostbusters Wand question

I ended up doing my budget build this way. It was the only thing I could afford to do at the time and when the wand is retracted it looks fine and once the wand is "Hard" you cant see the gap because normaly your hand is in the way.

The green lever extended the tip. Both were spring loaded. Once the lever was pulled down it would spring back into place.... I'm not getting into how i know this but i have first had knowledge. The twist did absolutely nothing . The 2 6/32 screws are there for nothing more than keeping the inner grip tube tube in place, nothing more.
