Just out of curiosity did you place a towel or piece of foam on top of his head to bump the helmet up a bit or is the cast sitting directly on his melon? Reguardless it seems to be a flawless scale.

Yes, I had some padding in there. Positioning is key, if the helmet doesn't sit on the head just right it looks all wrong, regardless of scale. These shots its tilted forward a little too much, but it was only a quick pic.

Yes, but i've not had time to post it. Will try and get something up soonish. I've got some deadlines that need to be met and are taking up ALL of my time.

The visor was completed and I do have Kits available in the Junkyard

I'm loving the look of that chin. Pardon my ignorance but what exactly is a visor buck?

A "buck" is generally a hard form that you use to shape another material over.

They are used in leather and metal work to create complex curves and shapes, and they are used in plastics during the process of vacuforming.

All you do is put your buck on the platen/working surface, plastic is places above it, heated until it sags, then it's pulled down over the buck and the air is vacuumed out to form the plastic over the buck.

Thanks for the detailed information Nick! Now it makes all the more sense to me.

And Sorenzo, we'll be looking forward to your updates!

Casting complete :)

Think you all know the process by now, so here's a load of pics. Any questions, feel very free to ask.

(need to get a more professional makers mark)

I spent a long time deliberating what sort of mould I should do, I went with a one piece simply out of impatience. I really couldn't stand the thoughts of having to spend any more time working on this lid. I NEEDED a cast pulled ASAP!

The mold came out perfect (well as perfect as a mold can be)

And the cast came out amazingly!

Sooo, what do you think??

:)
Is it just the way it's sitting in the picture or is the back of the helmet a little skewed?
I only ask as I'm looking at guy casts to buy at the moment and that picture is concerning me a little, would it me possible to see some more pictures of the back square on please?

The chin is absolutely lovely though

No, i think its the picture. I hadn't removed the flash at the opening of the cast, so its sitting on top of that. Send me an email to sorenzoprops@gmail.com and i'll send you some better pics.

This is an awesome build! I'm going to start working on something soon that requires glueing a couple pieces of styrofoam together and bondoing it. Can I ask in the pictures below, what glue you used as well as what you applied to the outside before bondoing?

Thank you so much!

Probably just used superglue? it was a while ago.
The outer layer is just fibreglass with a very fine paper.
